Any Dog Lovers Here?

Happy New Year all, not sure if we're still in the thralls of the season of goodwill and all that but I'd mainly like to use this thread to help raise awareness for Dog Rescue Centre based in Lanzarote, http://saraprotectora.org.

If you have a few minutes to spare, please take a look at this post in our forum from one of our dog loving affiliates...

Quote:
I will never forget the 16th December 2012. It was the day that my best friend "Eddie" - the worlds best and most loved Jack Russell, had to be put to sleep after battling an aggressive heart cancer at 12 years old. In the end nothing could prepare us for how hard it was to finally say goodbye to him or the huge hole he left in our lives once he had passed away. This year there was no seasonal cheer and certainly no Merry Christmas around our house....

Anyway, I'm not writing this to depress anyone, I'm sure most of you reading this has lost a pet and knows that "every dog has its day" so to speak and we should focus on the happy life we gave them - Something which consoles me deeply as Eddie was a rescue dog and was found and adopted by my wife.

In fact this story has a somewhat happy ending after meeting a remarkable couple just a few days ago who dedicate what little spare time they have in helping dogs find new homes - Rick and Lesley Beauchamp.

Based in Leciester, Rick and Lelsey have been travelling to Lanzarote for the last 5 years rehoming over 50 dogs in the last year, which would have otherwise have lived out their entire lives in a small cell in a rescue centre. Why Lanzarote you might ask? The reason is the population of Lanzarote is very small and 90% of dogs are never rehomed once they are left (dumped) by their owners. Most have horrific stories to tell, and as there is no animal protection laws there, some dogs have been through hell.

They are not an organised charity who spend money on administration and taking salaries, in fact for them its a labour of love - they use their own income from their full time recruitment company to help fund what they do, only asking for a charitable donation which does not cover the cost of dog food, transport, vetinary fees, airfare and fuel costs to get them to the UK.

They were featured in a BBC interview here -
http://news.bbc.co.u...000/9369517.stm

Anyway, after visting Rick and Lesley we decided to adopt a little spanish dog called Chico - http://saraprotectora.org/ficha/2137/ who is so loving and happy to have been rescued.

If I had the room to take all their 10 dogs which they currently have, I would have adopted every one of them. However with a 2 bedroom semi detached house that unfortunately can't happen!

What we are doing is making a decent donation to help them continue their 100% selfless work and help them rehome more dogs over the coming years. The rescue centre the dogs come from in Lanzarote (http://saraprotectora.org/) will also be getting a donation as they are all volunteers who work there and never put a healthy dog down.

If we could raise £1000+ from the many affiliates here myself, Lesley and Rick would be estatic, and it would make a fitting tribute to Eddie and our current resuce dog.

We are making donation of £400 to get the ball rolling. Please let me know if you would like to help out!

Thanks for reading and happy new year to Twist Digital and all the affiliates on here.
any help would be appreciated
