Has anybody here seen The Haunting (not the remake, but the original from the 60s)?

There was also The Evil Dead and the original Night of the Living Dead (which was played on a huge screen in our high school gymnasium, and the next-day lunch special was fried chicken... brrr.)

Let's Scare Jessica To Death

John Carpenter's The Thing

Don't Look Now

I just watched Carrie the other night...

David Cronenberg's The Fly

Halloween! Talk about classic!

The remake of The Hills Have Eyes

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

...which calls to mind House of a Thousand Corpses (or House of 1000 Corpses)

And just to punch out my list, how about Freaks, by Tod Browning? Try to get the original, uncensored version, and the ending will creep in your skull for decades...

Best vamp movie ever, IMO (and I've seen tons of them)

Werner Herzog's Nosferatu. Dark, gothic, classic and beautiful.

Your picture is in colour... My grade eight teacher showed that movie (Nosferatu) to his class in what? 1976?

Max Schreck left an indelible impression on me. Between that movie and Jaws, I was a fucked up little kid.

Also look up "Superstition", "Return Of The Dead", "Reanimator" and my favourite - can you guess? No? Basketcase. Maybe the original Evil Dead...

Some great horror movies were released during the dawn of VHS. Now? Been there. Done that. Seen it all before.

Better SFX, less imagination.

The Entity was a good movie, the book freaked me out. Another good one, although its kinda borderline horror is "The Ninth Gate"

One of the more disturbing horrors I think I've ever seen was Castle Freak.

Some good ones here.

One I always love and few people seem to know about is "Spider Baby"

Starring Lon Chaney, Jr. and a very young Sid Haig (Captain Spaulding from HO1KC and Devils' Rejects)

It was filmed in color. It's a remake of (and it's superior to ) Murnau's masterpiece.

Near Dark, imho much better than Lost Boys
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0093605/

Fright Night, the original. Didn't like the remake
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0089175/

And for newer films, there's the French with Frontier(s), Martyrs, Inside, Haute Tension, The Horde, and the Spaniards with [REC] and its sequels.

The Gate is the worst horror movie ever. it was stupid when I was a kid, it is stupid now. BORING and slow as fuck.

human centipede 2 is just fucking retarded. no, the mute midget isn't scary. it's fucking stupid. there's a scene where a pregnant woman gives birth and crushes her newborn's head with her foot to press the gas pedal of a car. FUCKING STUPID.

Phantasm 1 and 2 are great. I just wish they delved into where the tall man actually went to become fucked up like that - and why there are endless copies of him.

Videodrome, Suspended Animation, and Re-Animator are some of my favorite movies nowadays.

I gotta agree that creepshow is awesome too

Although "The Cabin in the Woods" was excellent, I wouldn't say it's a horror movie.

For me it's more of a satire, a dark comedy which uses horror movie archetypes to spoof them. If you watch a lot of horror movies you'll definitely have a good time watching it.

And while on the subject

I think that's because they show you everything, and don't leave anything to the imagination. That's what scares people the most.

Fright Night, the original. Didn't like the remake

And for newer films, there's the French with Frontier(s), Martyrs, Inside, Haute Tension, The Horde, and the Spaniards with [REC] and its sequels.
no freakin way thats better than lost boys

The modern film is NOT a "remake" of "Nosferatu"! It is a fictional recounting of the filming of the original based on the idea that Max Shreck is actually a vampire, is NOT "superior" to the original, was NEVER intended to be "superior" to the original and stands quite alone as a masterpiece in and of itself.

"Nosferatu"; 1922:

"Shadow of The Vampire":

I Am Legend - the remake of The Omega Man (and Vincent Price's The Last Man on Earth).

Love the suspense where Will Smith ends up in the dark warehouse looking for his dog.
