Obama to bypass congress and pass CISPA by executive order... :-(

http://rt.com/usa/news/congress-exec...president-958/

"Obama?s first executive order is expected to be issued this week when the president calls for the creation of new standards on what private-sector companies must do to protect their computer systems from a cybersecurity breach.

The order is a direct response to Congress? refusal to pass the Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act (CISPA) last year, which the administration deemed crucial to prevent crippling attacks on the nation?s infrastructure. But members of Congress who opposed the legislation cited serious privacy concerns with giving the government greater access to Americans? personal information that only private companies and servers might have access to.

Despite opposition from lawmakers, the president will use his executive powers to issue an order addressing cybersecurity initiatives.

?It is a very dangerous road he?s going down contrary to the spirit of the Constitution,? Sen. Charles E. Grassley (R-Iowa) told the Washington Post. ?Just because Congress doesn?t act doesn?t mean the president has a right to act.?"

So this means that pretty much every bit of digital info, even stored on private servers, will be open to the government....

I'm sure some of you will see no problem with this..... Even in this business.

Obama is such a puppet it's not even funny. I'm pretty sure Romeny would not have been any better. It's time this country gets a real person on the ballot that is ready to tell everybody (big business) fuck you.

It will never happen.

Our forefathers are rolling over in their graves.

the government already has every piece of digital info....they have been storing it for years. this basically gives them the right to use it against Americans. before it was an invasion of our privacy and now it is a national defense condition. those muslim guys are pretty smart.

Dude, that's a lame argument.

Saying "Bush did it too" doesn't make it right.

Obama kinda ran his whole first election AGAINST what Bush had done.

Everything from running up a huge national debt...(Bush was "unpatriotic" for doing that), to "tranaparency" in govt. (Obama is just as much or MORE deceptive and secretive), and of course EXECUTIVE ORDERS. (like most Senators...then Sen. Obama was against the use of Executive Order)

But I guess since the evil Bush did it...it's now okay for all other Presidents to bypass Congress and just do things as they please?
Even IF it's a "good" ruling...there is a reason that we have different branches of govt.

It's not supposed to be easy to pass ANY new laws.

The powers that be figured out it generally doesn't look that bad when a person of color does it. Why you think there's like 3 black dudes and a Mexican up for the next pope? Melanated folks taking over.

Did you complain about George Bush and all the executive orders he did to bypass congress?

Not that I agree with it, but the Republican Congress has not done their job the entire time Obama has been in office. They had tried to block everything no matter if it's good or bad.

This is a direct result of Obama knowing nothing will result in trying to work with the Republicans and doing what he decided to do. It's bad that the president did this, but it's even worse that it's simply a waste of an effort to even try to get the Republicans in Congress to work together and come up with something reasonable.

It's not the Presidents office that is at fault here. It's the fact Congress has been useless for the last 4+ years.

The rest of your comments regarding congress are just the same old party line politics. The Democrats who run the Senate have blocked every Republican bill from the house, (but without anyone seeming to pay any attention). The point is that congress is SUPPOSED TO REPRESENT THEIR CONSTITUENTS. If the people that vote in a republican, or democrat, or whatever, then they are not supposed to "go along to get along", they are supposed to represent the wishes of those that voted for them. That goes both ways. If that means that nothing gets done, then THAT'S GOOD. The fact is that if the nation is so divided on an issue that it can't pass their elected reps, then it should not be passed, and life should just go on without that particular law. Only if the country is truly altogether on something, should anything be done by the government. Frankly the government doing nothing is doing the least damage.

Well Libertarian really isn't a solution, because they hold no real power in our govt. They are just a swing vote in essence that usually sides with the Republicans.

The simple fact is that the govt has been collecting this data since the Bush years.

Again...as I said in my previous post:

Because "evil" Bush did it (and it was wrong) doesn't make "good" Obama doing it "right".

Obama originally in 2008 ran AGAINST all the shit that Bush pulled. And now he does all of it himself.

And the only thing that Democrats say EVERY TIME that Obama does shit like this is: "Well, Bush did it too"

Well, if Obama is doing the exact same things as Bush (Gitmo, secretive deals, patriot act, drone strikes, executive orders, running up the debt, and the list goes on)...then shouldn't all of you who hated Bush also HATE Obama?

But for some reason you do not.

Sounds hypocritical to me in the extreme.

I actually always keep track. It's all public record.

http://georgewbush-whitehouse.archives.gov/news/orders/

Most executive orders a just meaningless bookkeeping stuff, but certainly not all of them. I don't have time to list them all here, but for example I had a big problem with Bush regarding the "terrorist financing order", and the "Export control regulations", among others...

In any case, how long are we going to just watch the government take away every right and power that was held by the constitution to be reserved to the people, and just point at the other "team" and say, "Hey! They were worse!". They both only care about power for themselves, and they are playing us all for suckers.

Executive orders are nothing new and have been used throughout our history. It is not a democratic or republican iissue. As far as our forefathers rolling over in their graves, George Washington used executive orders when he felt it necessary.

In that case, I apologize Michael.

Until we have real term limits nothing will change.

Since the people who will have to vote on these term limits will be putting themselves out of their cushy jobs, I don't see this happening.

Things are not going to get better.

Big difference between getting a report from a transitional govt. and using drones to kill American citizens.

Just goes to show how govt. builds upon past precedent and ends up out of control.

The stated aim of the bill is to help the U.S government investigate cyber threats and ensure the security of networks against cyberattack.
Sounds reasonable to me.

"Although President Obama has issued fewer executive orders than any president in over 100 years, he is making extensive plans to change that, Washington Post reports quoting people outside the White House involved in discussions on the issues."

In other words, he's tired of getting nowhere and if nobody is going to play ball with him he's going to play it by himself.

If Congress is against it they had a chance to pass a watered down bill. Instead, like always, they decided to do nothing.

epitome, that is exactly what he said was WRONG when Bush did it.

Nobody is supposed to "play ball" with him. That's why there is separation of powers. Congress and The Senate are supposed to be involved.

And each representative is theoretically supposed to legislate on what he was voted in to do. Last time I checked...no Republicans were voted in to do what the Democrat party wants. They were voted in to do the exact opposite.

That's how our Democracy works when you think about it.

One of the reasons I voted FOR Obama in 2008 was he very publicly AGAINST stuff like this and the things that Bush had done.

And the reason I became disillusioned with him is because he turned out to be the exact same.

So you won't accept any improvement? Being the one to use them the least isn't good enough if he issues a single one?

You voted for him the first time because he was going to do things differently. He does them differently and he loses your support because it wasn't a complete 180.

Your answer to the problem was voting for Romney. I know, you voted third party. Heh.

He lied about it.
Also:
He said that Bush running up a national debt was unpatriotic. He's running it up bigger.
He said he would close Guantanamo Bay. He didn't.
He said he would make the writing of the "health care" law totally transparent and televise it on CSPAN. It was all done in secret including a deal with big pharma to keep our prescription drugs twice as expensive as the rest of the world.

This is just the latest thing he lied about.

In other words...he's no different than Bush was. You just refuse to acknowledge it.
And yes, I voted for Gary Johnson.

And yes, I shook the hand of his Vice Pres. running mate Jim Gray at Internext. Because he spoke at Internext about overthrowing Measure B in California.

And neither your hero Obama, or Joe Biden, or ANY Democrat or Republican would EVER appear at an adult business convention and be on our side.

So you just keep on thinking whatever you want to. But the Democrats nor Republicans are on your "side".

And your hero Obama is just as much of a liar and thief as was Bush and every politician in Washington D.C.

Exactly. They flatly refuse to work with him. On anything. The GOP shitheads folded their arms the second Obama set foot in the White House. And they're still folded.

Folks, get your heads out of the Dem vs Rep bubble and start following the money. Then you'll really start seeing what's been going on the last 3 decades

It would seem that the Executive Order has some significant differences from CISPA.

Funny how the people, who complained about Bush, remain silent while Obama continues his policies.

I remain horrified by the Patriot Act, and the NDAA. They're very frightening.
I don't think his administration will abuse the power (then again, how would we ever know), but they're outrageous, un-American, and need to go.

I agree 1000%

Just because we may have a "nice" president at the moment, doesn't mean we will in the future.

And do we really need all this bullshit anyway over 9 guys with box cutters 12 years ago? Is it really worth it to our country to continue this?

It's sort of like the "terrorists" ended up "winning" anyway.
