Two fifth graders plan to kill classmates

WTF are kids drinking or eating these days where they think it's okay to kill their friends?

Quote:
Two fifth-grade boys armed with a stolen semi-automatic gun, ammunition clip and knife plotted to kill a classmate in Washington state but were thwarted when another student informed a school employee, authorities said Thursday.

The two boys, who told police they considered the girl rude and annoying, won't be tried as adults and will be in court next Wednesday for a capacity hearing, said Tim Rasmussen, the Stevens County prosecuting attorney.

The two boys, ages 10 and 11, told authorities that they were also going to kill, or "get," six more students at Fort Colville Elementary School in Colville, Washington, and even identified them from a class list provided by school employees, according to court documents.
Stupid fucking kids....

Lets look into the kids diet, and their medications. Both of which should be 100% on the parents.

There is a pattern that keeps emerging in cases like this.. parents need to step up and take a bigger role in kids lives.. it would solve a lot of problems.

i got my 1st gun for my 10th birthday and have owned gunS ever since. i've never plotted to murder a girl over a bad breakup and have a bro watch out and kill anybody that might walk by.

fact is the media sensationalizes spree killers and such. if they did not plaster pictures of the killers and do stories on "what kind of person is the killer?" and "inside the mind of a spree killer." and on and on, then kids like this would never get the idea.

i look at it this way, if instead of glorifying spree killers in the media, we instead ran stories about the victims and how they were, while the only thing we learned about the killer is there is a piece of his eyelid left and that's about all we can find of him, there would be far less of this kind of shit.

rhetorical litmus test. most people can recall the name of spree killers better than they can recall the names of their victims.

that's a mind fuck for people, it glorifies the killer.

If easy access to guns was the reason kids shoot other kids at least 50,000 would have been shot last night.

It's not guns, televisions, video games or parents... It's the fact that all your life in school when you're bullied or picked on in school you're just told to "ignore it and they'll stop" but 8+ years of it and it never stops and anytime you try to do something about it, you are the one who's considered the problem... That's the real problem... Bullying is a huge part of it, and the fact that it gets to these kids so bad to the point that the only logical thing they can think to do is kill them...

all he ever does is bitch about USA, Russians and pretty much any other country that does not wear wooden shoes. I joke about the shoes knowing people are not running around in them but he really thinks 2 year olds are out at the gun range and every tom dick and harry has 7 guns in his pocket.

I grew up at the height of slasher movies. Not that many kids went on slaying sprees.

I vote parenting and confused social messages. If there is nobody putting what they see on the news of in other media into context, it is no wonder some go the wrong direction with it. Plus, if you don't have to search harder than your parent's unlocked gun cabinet for the weapons, it is going to be that much easier.

Well done to the child that wasn't afraid to tell an adult about it.

When I first read this I thought myself "Where are the parents?". Then I remembered I grew up in a house full of firearms and parents didn't pay any attention to anything I did. I mean, they never attended a basketball game or little league game... ever. To this day I am not close to my family.

Yet I never thought of killing someone.

I think this is more of a modern day society thing - When I grew up we watched Magnum PI and A Team where no one ever got hurt. Now.... Not so much.

that is correct, i do not own a tele and have not for 1.5 years now. i do watch netfli, hulu and others.

and yes, i do put a lot of responsibility for planting the idea of violence as a means to an end on media sensationalism.

I agree with this.. If you have your gun improperly stored and some kid steals it and plans or manages to use it for something bad then you should be held accountable for it.. Obviously there are circumstances in this scenario.. but if you didnt do all you could to keep a child from getting ahold of it, you're in the wrong...

All of my firearms are in a bolted locked metal safe.. I always laugh when people are like oh my guns are in that gun cabinet over there.. thin wood with glass face.. real secure...

This isn't rocket science.... Just a simple quirk o human heavier. There was a school shooting and it was global news. Then there were endless copy cats in the US, Canada and Europe. The message is simply "hey, this is a new way you can deal with your pain, anger or crazy" and the more it happens, the more it will happen. If the media didnt blow it out of control it wouldn't be happening at all. But here we are. The same old shit plays put time and time again as people desperate to rationalize/understand and cope start to blame a "thing". Not patents, not the media, not all the people who should have said something or did something or intervened. We created a PC world where everyone should be looked at as being the same, where we can't judge and where everyone should be treated equally and as a result, most people are blind to reality.

You can't blame a 5th grader for wanting to commit murder.
You can point to tv, film, videos games for some degree of desensitization.
However, having the idea and actually planning it out and attempting to carry it out or worlds apart in terms of what's wrong with the child.

These stories ALWAYS end the same info always comes out in the end. Troubled kid coupled with parents who didn't take adequate steps to protect others from their child.

I don't think that's it. I grew up in a household full of firearms, handguns, mostly rifles. We hunted. Eventually I joined the Marines. But no one ever thought of killing another person, or stabbing them.

I think it's TV. The TV we watched thirty years ago was tame and lame. The crime shows on TV were more "white collar" (theft, missing persons, etc) and no one ever got hurt. Now it's all about brutal murders, realism, people getting killed.

They planned on using a knife... They were going to stab the girl, and then fight off any "first responders" with a handgun. And then try to lure kids out of the school one at a time to kill them.

This isn't about handguns. It's more about the fact that two fifth graders wanted to kill their classmates.

I wonder if anybody ever stops to think about the message you send to kids when you go to war with a country like Iraq (for example) over some bullshit. You are showing them that violence is the answer. You have an issue with someone, drop a bomb on their head.

I think you have a really good point. Being a kid can be very stressful and painful, unfortunately. But when I was in school, I remember some pretty vicious fights, but not murders or suicides. WTF is going on? Jesus Christ.

I think it's TV. The TV we watched thirty years ago was tame and lame. The crime shows on TV were more "white collar" (theft, missing persons, etc) and no one ever got hurt. Now it's all about brutal murders, realism, people getting killed.[/QUOTE

And 20-30 years ago every time a kid killed himself or did something terrible, people asked "what heavy metal music did he listen to?"

No difference. Blaming a "thing" besides what's happening at home isn't going to take society any closet to fixing the problem.

I'm going to add YouTube and other "media" outlets like that to the mix. In elementary school the "hardcore" kids in my class had to go to the library and look at the holocaust and Vietnam photos in the TimeLife books to get their gore fix. Now they can go to YouTube while skipping school at their friend's house and watch helmet cams from ACTUAL live firefights in Iraq and Afghanistan. They can hear the soldiers joking about shooting and killing people. That's not a video game, but it's certainly portrayed as one. And if they're just "surfing the internet" on their own, there is NOBODY around to put it in context for them. No older, wiser brother or uncle or father to say, "That's not showing you the real cost of war" or "No, you can't watch that. You wouldn't understand/not old enough."

ok, back to my work...

The culture in this country breeds this shit. Easy access to guns certainly doesn't help, but not every country that has easy access to guns has this problem. This is American culture at its finest and is mostly a product of the shit we bombard kids and everyone else with in TV, movies and other media and parents not doing their fucking jobs. Parents in the US these days will only raise their kids if it's convenient. It has to go beyond simply feeding and potty training them like most people seem to think.

charles manson's "family" said they grew up watching people being killed all the time on tv with shows like gunsmoke, have gun will travel, etc as some kind of reason for having a love of violence so its probably not much different today. much more graphic i guess but my point is people have been blaming television for society's woes since it was invented.

yeah, the judas priest and ozzy trials were nothing more than an attempt to make money out of the incidents. turned out the kids had deep emotional issues and were abused/molested but oh no, it was the music.
