The Pope seeks immunity

Ahh...right, I see

"The Pope will have immunity from prosecution regarding the mishandling of child sex crimes by staying within the walls of the Vatican, according to an anonymous Vatican source. Reuters reported Friday, Feb. 15, that church sources have explained that the retiring Pope Benedict would be ?defenseless? if he leaves the Vatican."

If I conspired and helped to hide multiple child abuse crimes I would be in federal prison forever. And rightfully so.

That is incredible. Simply incredible. What they are saying is, rape, pillage, plunder, murder, abuse, and then rape some more and so long as you're within the Vatican you will be protected where NO law enforcement agency can touch you.

It is literally unbelievable that this is tolerated.

This HBO documentary?:

This morning, Queens Councilman Eric Ulrich took to his Facebook page to post a scathing review of Mea Maxima Culpa: Silence in The House of God, an HBO documentary on the sex abuse scandals that have rocked the Catholic Church. Mr. Ulrich had several issues with the film, which he characterized as ?an exploitive and biased account of a dark chapter in the history of the Catholic Church.?

?As a proud Roman Catholic, I am truly offended by the blatant bigotry contained in HBO?s so-called documentary Mea Maxima Culpa: Silence in The House of God,? Mr. Ulrich wrote. ?It accuses His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI of being complicit in covering up sex abuses cases involving Catholic priests and unfairly criticizes the late Pope John Paul II. Above all, its chock full of anti-catholic rhetoric and demonizes members of the clergy (most of whom are dedicated, compassionate and pious men).?

Mr. Ulrich went on to criticize the movie for not noting the things the Church has done to combat sexual abuse in the wake of the scandals.

?The film does not include any of the steps the church has taken to protect children nor does it accurately depict how the church has tried to heal the emotional and psychological suffering of sex abuse victims. Instead, it glorifies trial lawyers as moral crusaders,? wrote Mr. Ulrich. ?If you?re looking for an exploitive and biased account of a dark chapter in the history of the Catholic Church, this film is for you.?

Mea Maxima Culpa premiered on HBO February 4 and is airing on the cable channel throughout the month. It was directed by Oscar winner Alex Gibney and focuses on a number of sex abuse cases, the ensuing lawsuits and criticizes how the Pope and other Church officials responded to the situation. Politicker reached out to HBO to discuss Mr. Ulrich?s gripes with the film, but as of this writing, we have yet to receive a response.

There was a movie I saw several years ago about on particular case of sex abuse and how it was covered it. It amazes me how these guys get caught over and over again and the church just settles with the families to keep the quiet and moves the priests on to other locations where they do it again and are moved again.

Billions collected from honest church going Catholic's. Money given with pure expectations of it being spent on good things, good causes.

Not to buy the silence of raped children by their ultimate authority figure, a Catholic priest. Pitiful misuse of the public trust.

One of things that disturbs me the most is how you read about the church selling assets and paying out 100's of millions of dollars in settlements. Should a church really have 100's of millions of dollars worth of assets to begin with?

We had a pedo priest in my parish. The sicko tried hit on me when I was 13. He was doing his thing in our parish for every bit of 15 years until they farmed him out.

Please show me one time he even hinted at being a member of the Catholic church. As I recall, his father was a minister which pretty much makes that accusation not likely.

I guess, I feel like, if they are going to ask people to donate to them and they are going to get tax-free status they should be spending that money to help people not to invest it so that their leadership can live a life of luxury.

I remember watching some of the procession when the last pope died and they were talking about how the tradition is that the pope must give up all his worldly possessions when he takes the office and he is buried in a humble, simple pine box. They talked like he was making some grand sacrifice. If I got to live in a building with ever luxury you could want, have private chefs make my every meal, have a staff of people do everything for me, have private tailors make all my clothes which and fly via private jet I would give up my worldly possessions as well.

I wish we could drag that piece of shit out of the Vatican... Tar and feather and draw and quarter. Its was good enough in the 17th century, why not now?

Its pretty clear the priest pedophilia thing is widespread and goes all the way up the butt of the Pope.

I Vomit on the Vatican.

Part of my issue with him and the church is part of my dislike for organized religion in general.

Sure, other leaders, kings etc live in luxury, but they aren't claiming to be living in the image of Christ. Should he be able to live comfortably? Absolutely. Should they make sure he is safe when he travels? Without question. But when they try to make it out like he has given up his worldly possessions to live a life of servitude yet he is surrounded by wealth 99.9% of those who follow him will never experience I find it a little bit hard to swallow.

I have the same issue with a lot of charities that raise millions and millions then they actually give just a tiny percent of what they bring in to those in need or to the causes they work for.

A picture perfect example of our World today. Not only was he Hitler youth, then becomes head of child molestation for the church and then Pope.

because it's part of their unwritten ritual...it is part of the Church and they will never stop..if caught.. hush hush, sweep under rug..it's gone on for hundreds of years, it will continue for a hundred more.
I don't follow ANY organized religion since it's merely another tool of submission

Sure, other leaders, kings etc live in luxury, but they aren't claiming to be living in the image of Christ.
And I guess part of the problem is your understanding of the Pope's place. Don't ever recall being taught that the pope is the living image of Christ.

He is not the living image of Christ, but pretty much every christian that I have known fairly well has told me that they believe in Christ, follow his teaching and strive to emulate him.

"... Instead, it glorifies trial lawyers as moral crusaders,” wrote Mr. Ulrich."

It's always those damn moral crusaders. Morality in the church? How dare they?
