Should I get the hurricane straps for my Park Model trailer?

We're looking at some options for our park model trailer. Being zoned as a camping and tenting grounds we're restricted to the canadian CSA park models as the best we can get, 538 sq feet. We plan to build a house there in a few years but to get started we're just getting a park model for ourselves so we can be there right away and later use it as a rental.

Now my question is, do I get the hurricane straps? Has anyone had any experience with this? Manitoba doesn't get hurricanes, but we do get the occasional tornado. Now if the park model is hit, it's toast straps or not, but if a tornado is nearby straps would help. Plus there is often high winds by the lake, wondering if they would rock the trailer at all and if straps would help that?

thoughts? Anyone with any experience on this topic?

and yes I'm planning on becoming trailer trash......

Most insurance policies will require straps. In the long run they are so cheap it doesn't matter.

for mobile homes yes, but these are park model trailers so insurance is under our provincial automobile insurance company, not home insurance. Private insurance isn't allowed for vehicles and trailers in Manitoba, only the public insurance company monopoly.

People say monopolies are bad, and usually I'd agree, but in Manitoba we pay some of the lowest car and driver's licence fees combined than anywhere else in Canada or the USA I know of. My new truck is $800 a year and my driver's license is $35/year.

I'm thinking you're right though, for the cost it's probably worth it to get the straps even if never needed.

just wondering if anyone had experienced high winds in a park model and if it rocked or such?
