Not near enough for bitcoins to ride on alone.

Open an account at an exchange and wire money?

It really isn't that hard man.

BINGO!

The average internet user is never going to understand Bitcoin in it's current form, any webmaster can figure it out pretty quickly but not you average person.

Franck you're right that if a company like Manwin started using Bitcoins or Alt currencies for micro payments it would catch on quicker but it's still an absolute pain in the ass to load fiat money into Bitcoin. THAT needs to change before the next steps happen and it's embraced as a micro payment solution, it's too much of a hassle in it's current form IMO

Yeah it's a lot more hassle than wipping out a credit card for your average customer, plus wire transfers can take 1 - 2 business days.

Have you heard about Ripple? It's got quite a bit of VC funding recently

https://www.ripple.com

For the record I think some form of alt currency will eventually revolutionise the way we transfer money without the fees and hassle but I don't think it's gonna be Bitcoin.

Zillions of people use Paypal. Guess what, you have to load it from your bank.

It's a start up problem. Not a general problem.

ripple is pretty interesting, some say it can solve the mtgox issue as it creates an otc style exchange, problem is in doing that, it has to translate btc to it's own crypto-currency which may just reintroduce the same problem as mtgox.

a lot of people don't even know what a wire transfer is. half the time when i go to the bank the tellers i get don't even really know what it is and have often never had to send one for a customer before. also the fact that in the US/Canada you can't send a wire transfer online, you have to actually go to the bank. pain in the ass. also i have to fill out some kind of anti money laundering form every time i send a wire over a certain amount. another pain in the ass.

and franck, most people use paypal with credit cards, not bank accounts. if there was an instant way to buy that didn't require verification docs to be uploaded, this would greatly help popularize bitcoins.

Yup and in the meantime we can ignore it or make extra money and make people aware by adding it to your site.

At this point it's just an interesting concept, if you registered on bitcointalk.org before February 2013 they are giving free credit in a thread over there.

Seriously? You poor bastards! I was annoyed today when I sent a wire transfer to Germany through my online banking and found out it was going to take 1 - 2 business days!

Yeah we have that in the EU too, I think the amount is €5000. Anything over it and it's flagged. That's why these Bitcoin exchanges need Passport & Proof of address documents when you register for the AML regulations.

Interestingly Bitcoin-24 didn't ask for any of this information from deposits and had their Polish bank account shut down, hence the site is offline.
