What's a just punishment for this guy?

British businessman James McCormick has been convicted of three counts of fraud over the sale of bogus bomb detectors. His main market was Iraq, where lives depended on bomb detection and where the bogus devices were, and still are, used at virtually every checkpoint in the capital. He imported golf ball detectors for $15 from America, and then much later ordered his own similar upgraded devices. They did not work, they only ever did detect golf balls but made him a multi-millionaire. It has taken two years to come to court and sentencing. A few years in prison is all he gets!!! Wouldn't instantly being made a bomb disposal expert, sent out to work in Afghanistan with those devices for the same time period be more fitting?

Ten years in prison seems fair. He needs to be intimate with the concept of being afraid in the shower.

I would think this is borderline treason. Knowingly, and purposely, selling a product that would lead to deaths of his own countrymen during time of war.

The wrong buyer would have beheaded him, no problem.

I've read about this before and I think the guy deserves to get a life sentence. It might sound harsh, but the guy committed fraud with something that could or probably has caused loss of life.

A 20 year sentence is the very least he should receive.. I'm tired of seeing the average person getting ridiculous sentences while guys like this essentially get slaps on the wrist because he has a lot of money.

Did anyone die from his scam? If so I would think he would be accountable.

Judging by the amount of bombs going off in Iraq, I reckon many deaths can be accredited to this scam. The sad thing is they still us them. How stupid the UN is for never doing any testing, but purchasing many.

From what I remember of the original story, he was selling them to the Iraqi military and police forces. They were buying them even though they were advised against it, because it was known that they were bogus.

So not sure Treason would factor in here.

Drop him in the middle of a mine field, give him one of his detectors, and tell him he is free to go.

The issue here is that there are a lot of things sold that are flat-out scams. I don't think it should make a difference if the product is life threatening or not; there should be measures in place to make sure that governments aren't buying a stupid piece of equipment that doesn't work.

Governments should be able to get their money back via a legal framework, but selling a product that doesn't do the job it claims to do shouldn't be something that ends up with you in jail. It's a slippery slope - what's next? Homeopathy? Tarot card readings? Dick pills? Snake oil? Acupuncture?

All of these things claim to do things that there's no scientific evidence for; why aren't salesman of these products also be prosecuted?

They interviewed a woman on BBC today that was at a checkpoint when a bomb went off. This checkpoint used those fake devices. She was burned all over, her face completely scarred, and she lost the baby she was pregnant with. (Her husband also left her as he couldn't care for her while recovering.)

I'd like to change my post.... To twenty years.

Twenty years of hardcore ass fucking in the shower three or four times daily is good for him. Will build some character too.

If harm is caused by the product, there should be systems in place to deal with civil cases that would potentially lead to product lines having to be destroyed. Currently, there isn't any evidence to support the hypothesis that damage has been caused by this scam. If there was, then criminal proceedings might be in order. Currently though, yes, I see no difference between this and selling placebo tablets.

If he knew they were faulty then I'd say life, if he didn't know which seems unlikely since its his product I'd still say a long fucking time. Tbh with you if people have died from bombs going off because the detector wasn't sensing anything then he he should be put on the chair.
