:stop The NRA Has Made It Harder To Connect Criminals To Their Weapons

The struggle to figure out how Boston Marathon bombing suspects Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev obtained their weapons began almost immediately after the manhunt ended, but very little has yet been discovered, thanks in part to policies pushed by the NRA that obfuscate how a criminal gets his or her weapons.

While law enforcement has argued that it would be helpful to be able to trace weapons to their source, the National Rifle Association has led the charge against any laws that might make this possible. Here?s a look at how the NRA?s pet policies are working against the public good:

Guns are hard to trace.
Gunpowder is hard to trace.
Stolen weapons are hard to trace.
Police couldn?t detect a pattern of suspicious purchases.

If the police knew where the bombers got their guns would it change anything?

Bombers bomb a marathon, we blame the bombers, not the bomb.

But when a gunman shoots up a school, we blame the gun.

Makes perfect sense to me.

Yeah. They could bring the hammer down of the ones who sold them the weapons (provided they didn't do a check, first).

It seems the NRA is doing an excellent job of convincing people of the virtues of anarchy.

Everyone seems to have a "Hey, what does it matter?" attitude now. "Laws don't change anything. Why have laws"?

So, tracking a gun to its source, after it's been used in a crime, is "blaming the gun"?

Why did the FBI let the older brother slip by? Many errors by the authorities, many missed opportunities, and even tips and communications by other countries intel to prevent this went ignored or were failed to act upon.
Look at the big picture.

haha yeah. The NRA's answer is to shoot their way out of the gun problem. It's idiotic.

The people at the top of that organization give every other gun owner a bad rep they don't deserve(most of of them).

regardless of where the fun came from. legal or illegal, it was used in a crime. do you think that a back ground check is going to stop that?

Kind of like kids hanging out outside the beer store and getting an " adult " to buy them beer.

Where there is a will, there is a way.

Guns are easy to trace to the original buyer if the serial numbers are intact...as they all have serial numbers...when they are sold. Once the original buyer is traced down they will have to provide an explanation as to what happened to their gun. Even if someone has attempted to get rid of serial numbers...just because you can no longer read the serial numbers with the naked eye...they still can sometimes be recovered.

I didn't know that. That's cool.

And how can they possibly defend being against gunpowder taggants? Apparently they were once a fairly reasonable organization. Now the NRA is just a bunch of blood merchants. Profit is their sole concern.

This is about tracking down criminals after the act has been committed. You'd agree that's important, right? I've learned not to make assumptions, so I'm asking.

The NRA has made that task more difficult for law enforcement. The NRA is a radical organization.

Guns don't kill people. People kill people. If they don't have guns they will use knives. If they don't have knives, they will use sticks. And if they don't have sticks, I am sure they will find stones.

"the jobs of law enforcement"?

Over the last couple of decades the Supreme Court has given cops the right to do any damn thing they want.

When I was younger...the cops could not search your car, could not search YOU unless they were arresting you, could not search your wife's purse, etc. , etc.

Now...in the name of the failed drug law (and now add in "terrorism") they can treat you like a dog and there's nothing you can do. If you even question "why" they are doing what they are doing you will be arrested of obstruction (and maybe get your ass beat down at the same time).

What a mental zombie you are GrantMercury. You just can't wait to give away the last few remaining rights you have as a citizen. You're almost giddy with anticipation.

Why?
You are so sure that "Big Brother" govt. has your best interests at heart and that all cops are "good" and looking out for you.

Can't wait until you get a nice dose of reality in the land of adults.

You are aware that the United States is NUMBER ONE for incarcerating it's own citizens. More than China. More than Cuba. More than North Korea. More than any country in history.

We live in a country where the prison industry is big business. And yet you don't think the cops already arrest enough people. What an idiot.

As far as your always slanted opinion goes, the NRA hasn't "Made It Harder" to do anything. They oppose any changes in existing regulations.

Why is it when every attack made by a criminal, people call to have rights taken away?

Which in the end is what the criminals want

So people in the US are responsible for 13% of the carbon in the atmosphere which 95% is not from Humans, like cars and trucks and stuff and they want to spend trillions to fix it while Solar Panel plants are powered by coal plants
think about that

Because we incarcerate too many people in America, and the cops get away with more now than they used to as a result of a right-leaning SCOTUS...you think its good that as a result of NRA lobbying it's more difficult to trace weapons and gunpowder after a crime has been committed? That makes total sense. Brilliant.
