There are outdoor spas/swimming pools - family friendly. Check them out. Not sure if the weather will be good enough but worth doing.

Take a Danube River Cruise.

There is a ferry that the Hungarians use it's part of the public transport there. I took that ferry all over the river with a few of my friends in Budapest last fall -- they live in the city so were very good tour guides ;). Very scenic, there are places to stop and return to the ferry. I found it made an interesting Sunday.

There is a more deluxe evening dinner tour also to see the city, about 50 - 70 euro per ticket, The city is really Buda and Pest the Danube divides the city -- from the river you get an interesting perspective.

It's unusually hot here at the moment, high 20's but hopefully next week will be cooler.

For the whole family, I'd go to the Aqua Park, it has some cool slides and pools and would be more interesting than the ordinary baths for kids.

If you like history, the Hospital in the rock is worth a visit (https://www.sziklakorhaz.eu/en/), but not really for kids. There's also the House of terror (http://www.terrorhaza.hu/en/museum/first_page.html), but I personally think that's overrated.

Apart from that, it's a nice town to stroll around. Restaurants can be a bit hit and miss though. If you fancy going out of town, there's a bear park about 30km out of town (http://medveotthon.hu/). Depending on the kids ages, they should enjoy it.

Depending on when you're coming, check out if there's any festivals. One of the things I really enjoy about it here, is having a cold beer outdoors at one of those things. There's a couple of beer and wine festivals throughout the summer, so if there's one running while you're here, you should check it out (and they're surprisingly kid friendly).

the citadel is really cool. you can walk up or take a taxi/bus. on top are amazing views of the whole city, a WWII museum and an old military bunker.

the national library and castle of buda are close to the citadel, and worth checking out also.

Hero's Square and City Park are great for kids too, there is some monuments to see, when i was there there was a carnival in the park, and there is a very well kept castle with nice grounds to explore as well.

Danube ferry tour at night should be your number one priority. All the main buildings are well lit (some criticize the city for spending too much on that).

MedveOtthon is great I've heard, TerrorHaza is crap, and not for kids at all.

Taxis can be great, but getting a cab 'on-the-fly' does NOT work here: you'll be ripped off with 80% chance this way. There Are companies with english speaking dispatcher, you need to order this way I think..

Aqua Parks I dont really recommend: this can be done anywhere, dont waste your time w such things here..

The Zoo of Budapest is nice though, and kid-compatible.

If I get in taxis in foreign countries I usually agree on price beforehand. Especially if I know the distance.

Csodák Palotája does scientific stuff in the most entertaining way, great for children in the age of 8-14.
Kopaszi Gát is another AWEsome place to spend some time, relaxing, nice and calm atmosphere there, tons of restaurants, gardens, you can walk around here.
