What are people replacing OpenX with?
The changes OpenX has been making this year make it, in my opinion, a much less acceptable solution. To the extent that we had integrated their OpenX Market on the non-adult side for remnant ads, OpenX appears to have locked everyone out of their stats and hasn't paid in recent months. I always found the OpenX interface annoyingly more complex than it needed to be for basic functions. The code seems to have gotten more and more buggy since OpenX started restructuring. I'd like to stop using it.
I loved AdCycle, back in the day, but the developer went to work on DoubleClick. Looking for an ad display solution which can work across a network, on multiple sites with different structures and CMS systems (can't just be a WordPress plug-in). I might go with DFP for non-adult and something else for adult, but I'd prefer something hosted on my server that I own and which I can use for both. Does NOT have to be freeware.

Yes. We host installs on our own servers. OpenX is moving away from the freeware business model. They want to be an ad platform and compete as an ad sales company with a hosted solution, rather than an ad software company with some advertising plug-ins. I don't know whether this will be good for them, but I think it is bad for most current users.

Adcycle was the bomb. Anyway, check out clippersoft.net. I've been running that for months and have been pretty happy. Don't get lazy with your mysql tuning or it will flog the db server pretty hard under moderate traffic. I serve 500,000 ads or so on a busy day and mysimpleads can handle it.
My db server is running percona on an e3-1230 with 16gb of ram.

I've tried this one (clippersoft). but it's filled with securety problems (my server was hacked with malware several times) ... and 2. ... stats don't display due to DB problems. My advice good for smaller sites (if you can fix the securety problems) ... but heavy traffic sites .. NO THANKS. I do know another "PERFECT" solution (script), but it cost aprox $6K or $7K Hit me up for more info if you are intrested (ONLY IF YOU HAVE THE BUDGET !!) |

It is just a professional adserver script that I know for people who have the money and the traffic. No need to have such a script if you don't have the traffic. Do you know professional adserver solutions? (self hosted) ? Do you have some "ADVICE" for people who need a "SERIOUS" adserver solution? Guess not, ... I say that clippersoft has securety issues "AND" database (stats) issues when you serve a lot of bannerviews. (With a lot of bannerviews I mean "AT LEAST" +1.000.000 views a day) Clippersoft cost 58 dollars, What do you expect ?? This is only some advice. Do with it what you want. I don't care. |

![]() Really, the question wasn't "What's the most amazing, badass, totally expensive script I can get to serve banner ads." The question is "What are people replacing OpenX with?" That is what I replaced OpenX with. There are no security issues. If your server got hacked or couldn't run Mysimpleads, I suspect it was due to your lack of competence. Let me guess...you're running a bone-stock MySQL server with about 10 lines in your my.cnf?

I like it when people call me Kiddo ... specially when I'm 45 y.o.
It makes me feel young lol That said .. I have a dedicated 1250 dollar a month (custom build) managed server at amerinoc.com ... just to let you know. Something wrong with that? About your traffic, I know you have the sites at tonysgalleries.com. But I don't get the point. is that important to know? Listen, I have nothing against you but I do know that you don't know me. We do not agree about this issue. Is that a problem for you? Maybe this is new for you but there is nothing wrong with two people who have a different opinion. So drop it. |

I don't have a problem. I just don't like people spouting inaccuracies. I've been running that script for months and never had a problem. You're the one puffing out your little bird chest. I saw the post before you edited out the "so shut the fuck up." Let's not pretend I was the one being aggressive.
and I don't run any adult stites anymore...

That was wrong, not appropriate, and thats why I deleted that part after 2 seconds already. Again I have nothing against you. (Why should I ??) I did check out the clippersoft script, but at some point it could not handle the traffic loads anymore cause I was serving aprox 4.000.000 bannerviews. The script could not handle it. Period. For me the biggest issue was the malware injection. But I'm not going to argue with you about that. I've only sugested a solution for those who are looking for a professional adserver script. Cause it is very hard to find a good one. |

By the way you were right about adcycle. That was a good script, and cheap ;-)
Used it around 2003 / 2004. I believe it is still around. Anyway the site is. But no updates like you've already said. |

I just looked into Adcycle since someone mentioned it was still around. http://www.adcycle.com/ Blast from the past. It looks so...antique...now. I don't think I will be going back to it. ![]()
