They are very good quality. They are heavy in the BASS department though. If you dont listen to a lot of rap music. I would say you are better off going with Bose. I have the Beat's Studio Series. They are good. But I like my Bose QC 15's better though. Better clarity and quality of sound. The noise reduction is also better on the Bose. Beats are not shitty at all though.

It is kind of a trend though.

My HP DM1Z laptop has Beats audio. Worst licensing deal they could have done, the speakers are comparable to the ones on a smartphone. In that case, it was purely marketing with 0 tangible value.

I've tried their headphones and they're OK. If you're looking for noise cancelling headphones, you'll be sorry if you buy the Beats and at some point in the future try the Bose. The Bose are by far the best I've ever tried.

Best headphones money can buy.

Beats by Dre are an overpriced trend item.

Get some Grados. I have had two pairs, the SRi60 and the SRi225, both brilliant, especially for the money. I got the GR8 in-ears last christmas, another fantastic product. Can't go wrong with Grado Labs.

I also but my turntable cartridges from Grado.

Beats by Dre if you are a hipster, want your headphones to match your outfit, or to look like youre wearing earmuffs in the gym.

No, Beats by Dr Dre are not very good. I went shopping for really good quality headphones last year and auditioned about 10 different sets including all of the Dr Dre Beats phones. They sound better than most, but not nearly as good as Bose headphones which cost the same price or a little more.

Go to your favourite audio store and ask to listen to the Bose Quiet Comfort 15. Bring your ipad and your favourite tunes and you'll be amazed.

My son and I both have Solo HDs (my dad contracts for Best Buy and got them for free) For the money they are a rip off. I got my son some blue tooth headphones off of amazon that were 80 bucks, they sound 10x better and my sons Beats just collect dust now. I also have some Bose Quiet Comforts. The quality of sound between the beats and the Bose are worlds away from each other.

They do look cool though.

I started buying good headphones as a teenager in the 90's. Back then I had pairs from Sony, Fostex, AKG, I'm sure a few others.

Nobody cared until it was trendy, and then everyone runs out to buy the exact same headphones...

You have companies that have been making great cans for decades, only to be ignored by kids who need the cool thing, not the best thing.

The beats headphones have artificial software induced bass. Like a cheap $80 canon camera that "makes every picture look better!" by applying various software techniques and... ruining your photos.

If you want bass, get a pair of Velodyne V-Pulse in-ears for $100. (http://www.kenrockwell.com/audio/velodyne/vpulse.htm)

I love my pair of Sennheiser HD-25-II's, they were around $250 I think, and are incredibly clear, comfortable, and accurate.

Avoid the big $500+ headphones if you don't listen to classical music at home plugged in to an amp.

PS: My dad was going on a trip to Australia, and I saw he had terrible $10 headphones. He said "they were fine" and he "didn't need anything better" etc.

I made him bring my Sennheiser's with him on the trip, and when he got home he ran out and bought the same pair for ~$300.. He says he's hearing things in music he never knew was there.

The $2,000+ STAX headphones apparently you can hear air conditioners in other rooms in older recordings.

It all depends what you are looking for, from a pair of cans. I run a recording studio and we use AKG for production because that is what we used in college for audio class (they were required). We mostly work with R&B and Hip Hop acts, so while they are in the booth, I'll break out the Dre Beats, because they want to hear the beat thumping as they deliver their vocals.

However, I will tell you this: the 'studio' beats BLEED LIKE MAD. Great sound for bass-junkies and I wouldn't call them "accurate sound", but you may disturb others around you, with these on.

My $20 Sony earbuds sound pretty good. I hear the Bose in ear headphones are worth the $100 or whatever. Side note: Most Audiophiles are huge geeks.

What headphones do you recommend if I want fidelity, to hear what is really on the audio file, not something else?

don't waste your money if your running an audio signal through your smartphone. the top headphones require an equivalent amp/source.

It depends on what kind of music you listen to, what the source is (what you connect the headphones to) and where you'll be using the headphones.

The Sennhesier HD-25-II's were "good enough" for me, and I since I listen to mostly hiphop they do well at that. Also they work fine from an ipod without a headphone amp. Those were pretty much my checkboxes when choosing, and I'm happy with my purchase.

Anything made by Monster is overpriced. End of thread.

I have a pair of these that I got for free, so I can't complain about much. Someone mentioned hearing things you didn't hear before, and that's exactly what these headphones are made for.

Just as good as those $150 Monster HDMI cables.

I use a pair of $10 in ear headphones. They work just fine for me. I've listened to a few Beats headphones and they sounded like crap...literally. No better than the cheap ones IMO. I think Target, and possibly Best Buy have them to demo. You're paying for the marketing. Paying for them to pay celebrities to endorse their product. Every celeb and professional sports player has them in public, and you know damn well they didn't pay a penny for them either.

ok, I feel pretty stupid - all this time I thought that "beats by Dre" are beats people buy to mix music

I see several radio stations using beats now ... so they must be somewhat decent

Esp. when you can get SONY MDR-v700DJs (long-standing industry and DJ standard equipment) for less than a C-note now ..

NICE CANS!!

For classical you want open headphones, most people love the Sennheiser 600's etc..

But you need an amp. These are sit in a quiet room in the dark and listen to music headphones.. Not ride the subway with your ipod headphones.

hmmmmmmm, these and a headphone amp...any suggestions on a portable amp?
That's a steal, you won't be disappointed. They're not $500 headphones, you could do better, but for the price that's unbeatable. What I love about these is that you could go for a run and they won't fall off, and yet you could wear them for hours without being uncomfortable. They're punchy, clear, good bass without "generating" bass through any trickery, etc.

I've never owned a headphone amp, let me know what you end up with. It's on my list of wants

Just noticed these are NOT the same headphones.. Different model number. Mine have a single cord, not split like that.

http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-HD2.../dp/B000TDZOXG

These are the ones.

This. In quality it compares to 50% cheaper competitors if you look around.
