Needed: Cross Browser video player that will play mp4 files from rtmp server

Ive tried flowplayer, mediaelements, kernel video sharing cant get any to work correctly. I have my videos hosted at maxcdn, they offer rtmp or pseudo streaming. I have primarily mp4 videos, im considering making them all flv if i cant find a solution. MP4 wont play in firefox. Im really only trying to use one file either .mp4 or .flv, and making 3 or 4 copies of one video is insane. If i cant find solution ill attempt to convert videos to flash and send mobile users somewhere else but i would rather not

if you are using an html5 player, mp4 is not supported on firefox, opera and perhaps another couple of browsers. You will need to have an .ogg or webm format for these browsers. That is unless your player uses a flash player as a fallback.

HTML5 is very much in it's infancy and there are loads of quirks in various browsers and operating systems. If you want to support mobile and tablet devices, your best bet is to show desktop users a flash player (using mp4) and show mobile and tablet users an HTML5 player (again using the same mp4 file).

Have you tried JW Player? I'm using it for streaming mp4's and it seems to be working fine.

I second JW Player, we use it for our mp4's and it works with all browsers that we have tested.

Same here. I use JW Player with both rtmp and pseudo streaming. The default is HTML5 with a roll back to Flash then download. This is documented on longtailvideo.com.

You can use HTML5 video player for MP4 files with fallback to Flash for browsers not supporting MP4/h.264 video playback, and ultimately to file download.

Or better you can provide HTML5 video in MP4 + WebM with fallback to Flash, then file download to cover most scenarios. Providing video files in multiple formats and resolutions is super easy and effortless with our program. You only need to upload one file, and the program generates multiple versions using filename templates. You can easily convert your whole content base preserving the filename structure of your CMS, i.e. CARMA style, to provide additional formats to your existing viedeo content.
