The Sopranos is voted the best-written TV series of all time

Critically acclaimed US mob drama The Sopranos has once again whacked its rivals after it was voted the best written TV series of all time by the Writers Guild of America.

Well cast, well acted, well written and well directed. It's definitely among the few series at the top of the heap, no one with any sense should question that.

I can live with people calling it #1. It's arguable, and quite subjective, but I won't quibble about it. In the end they left everyone wanting more, something a lot of productions out there don't attain.

Sopranos was great. I'm just really glad that I never watched it when it was on TV, but instead waited until the entire series was done and then watched it all in one month.

I'd give The Wire the top spot with Sopranos or Six Feet Under #2 and #3.

All HBO shows....

The Wire was fantastic, it had one of the best endings for a TV series. They did a great job tying up all the plot lines.

Kinda cool seeing the six feet under mentions. Feel like that's always been an unappreciated show, I think the ending is one of the best I've ever seen

Hmmm IMO Deadwood is 10/10 and Hell On Wheels is 7/10, it's just no where near as good as Deadwood in any way.

I have enjoyed Boardwalk Empire more than the Sopranos both are quality shows though, Boardwalk has the edge for me because the plots and time it's set in are more interesting.

I hope in season 4 Al Capone has more showtime, Stephen Graham is a great actor!

BTW for anyone who loved The Wire, you should check out David Simon's new show Treme

Completely different type of show, it's about New Orleans after Katrina.

It's more of a drama but if you're a fan of incredibly well written characters and plot lines then you'll enjoy it

Hell on wheels started out great the first few episodes but just keeps getting worse til the point ive almost lost interest. Seems they have completely abandoned the revenge storyline which is what really drew me in at first. Now they are just busy building train tracks.

I like it. I'm not sure when new episodes are out.

I see a lot of myself in the white guy from the radio station that hangs out with and is in awe of the musicians. Minus the actually wanting to be in a band. I can skip that part.

It's a common reaction at first glance and lots of people tend to agree. Till you start digging. And then you can see that it was masterfully engineered with planning evident for two years in Season Six, both parts one and two. Read this article. It took me several readings to get everything the author has to say - and while I think he got carried away at some points of his analysis, his core thesis is so well supported as to be beyond refutation, I think. http://masterofsopranos.wordpress.co...on-of-the-end/

I agree that Sopranos is on top of the heap. I've owned the black boxed set for years and I'm going through the episodes, in some cases for the third or fourth viewing, still seeing things I did not see before. I just learned that several friends are doing the same thing. It's a tribute to the writing that there is much to learn with each new viewing.

one can dissect the ending until it's a heaping pile of entrails and it would not make a difference to the typical viewer who was left wondering: wtf.
