Verizon customers. NSA collecting phone records of millions daily

http://edition.cnn.com/2013/06/05/po...rds/index.html

The National Security Agency is currently collecting the telephone records of millions of US customers of Verizon, one of America's largest telecoms providers, under a top secret court order issued in April.

The order, a copy of which has been obtained by the Guardian, requires Verizon on an "ongoing, daily basis" to give the NSA information on all telephone calls in its systems, both within the US and between the US and other countries.

The document shows for the first time that under the Obama administration the communication records of millions of US citizens are being collected indiscriminately and in bulk ? regardless of whether they are suspected of any wrongdoing.

The secret Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (Fisa) granted the order to the FBI on April 25, giving the government unlimited authority to obtain the data for a specified three-month period ending on July 19.

This is VERY distressing -- maybe 10 million Verizion subscribers phone records are being subpoenaed and data-mined on a fishing expedition without any probable cause or even reasonable suspicion.

The courts say we are all criminals now!

Where is the ACLU when you need them?

No shit. No one should be surprised by any of this.

It's been a slippery slope ever since the Partriot Act was put into place.

I hope the NSA enjoys burning up storage space on conversations between my father and I screaming about fantasy baseball.

Has nothing to do with the Patriot Act - this has been going on for decades. The US Constitution does not apply outside of the US, and the US government can do what ever it wants.

Ever notice how you live in California and when you to a trace route to a server on the east coast it goes through... Cananda? Makes you wonder why huh?

No, these were both domestic and foreign conversations

Quote:
[T]he order, which was signed by a judge from the secret court that oversees domestic surveillance, was first reported Wednesday on the Web site of London?s Guardian newspaper. The Web site reproduced a copy of the order, which two former U.S. officials told The Washington Post appears to be authentic. ...

http://m.washingtonpost.com/world/na...f03_story.html
Maybe it is legal to eavesdrop on domestic mobile -- I would suggest using high grade encryption. For every measure there is a countermeasure.

And that is the folly in this:

They will not hear Mohamed telling Ali that the bombing is a go in (insert American City here).

They will eavesdrop on Moe telling Mary that he is not wearing pants now -- a wise use of taxpayer money, government make-work salaries and wasted computer time ...
