I would tend to disagree.
We have a domain that is very specific, containing 3 keywords, in natural order of how they would be spoken / typed. A couple of weeks ago we were on the first page for about 15 various search terms, including the specific domain terms. As of this post, we are nowhere to be found :/ Thankfully we get some type-in traffic to that domain. |

From what I've seen for my keywords it appears to a combo of "authority" sites (Pinterest, Youtube, Amazon, Tumblr, etc) mixed with the search term in the page title.
Those covering both criteria seem to be getting the most love by far even when the actual content isn't really germane to the search. |

Seems to be hit and miss to me. Sometimes it works wonders. Sometimes no love at all. When you get love it might last for a week, a few weeks, a few months or a year. Even with same SEO tactics they are all crap shoots.

i think google changes less then we might think but prefers to switch different settings back and forward.. and confuse seo optimising folks. ive seen popup some totally spammy
remix content farms that have been banned a year ago to nowhere, beeing now back on top positions with still the same tactics they had a year ago. one of my domains with keyword , competing against another with the same content and no keyword just obtained all the traffic i lost with the domain that had not the keyword in domain...completly nuts (both domains had same age and nearly the same content with slightly adjusted keyword density) |

I think most of the keyword domains that had gotten hit were shitty domains - multiple hyphen or extreme long-tail that realistically can't support a full site on it (BigRoundRedBalls.com...for all of your big red round ball needs!). None of the really good domains like CreditCards.com, Cars.com, Hotels.com etc. got hit, and they've been consistently beating far bigger companies for those terms.
Slowly but surely, more folks will discover this and keyword domains will be back in the SEO tool suite. Til then, it's a good time to stock up on them while a lot of people think they lost all their power.

Yes that what i find annoying in doing seo- you figure out something and then you think how you hit gold brick and then you want to replicate what you discovered and suddenly it does not work.
