There has to be a catch somewhere. It's too easy. There are only 3 mines out of 20 squares so initially there is only a 15% chance (assuming the game is fair) that you will select a mine.
Further there is no incentive to play on the same board after picking the first square because if you do the odds only get worse for you with no benefit. For example I just started a practice game and I selected five safe mines that means my odds of selecting a mine on my next turn are 3/15 or 20% versus the earlies odds of 15% when I first picked a square. After picking 10 squares it's even worse. 3/10 or 30% is the new odds.

3 mines / 25 squares = 12% = 88% chance of winning
by betting .1: you win .011520 = .1+.011520 = .111520 .111520*.88=.098138 so for each bet on average you get 98% back = lose 2% each time you play
