:stop Breaking News: At least eight are dead in train derailment near Paris

PARIS (Reuters) - An intercity train headed for the central French city of Limoges derailed south of Paris on Friday, the national rail company SNCF said.

The Le Parisien newspaper said up to eight people were dead but the Interior Ministry official said it could not confirm whether there were any deaths.

A photo on the website of the Le Parisien daily, taken from Twitter, showed a train carriage completely off its rails and smashed against a platform at the station of Bretigny-sur-Orge, located about 26 km (16 miles) south of Paris.

Now the pilot is claiming he was hit with a big flash of light on approach. Said it through an interpreter. Engrish not so good. Unbelievable.

In a word, "noob." - NTSB is asking how could 4 pilots not be paying attention though. Further info from Korea suggests many passengers were disembarking themselves...the pics of people with baggage exiting, for example.

Prayers go out to the passengers in France as well. Seems when shit happens, it really happens.

These aircraft are almost fully automated in regards to many things. I heard on one news report that the auto throttle was controlling the speed until they over rode it too late. The truth is we will never hears the NTSBs findings until possibly years later. Right now its all speculation.

I was licenced aircraft mechanic for 12 years, and I have known many pilots and still do. To get a Co-Captain job on any 777 at any airline you have to pay your dues royally. You often need a University degree and thousands of hours flying time on big aircraft. No noobs get that job, a 777 cost is 250 to 300 million with over 300 souls on board. True they say he was still training for that "type" but guarantee that he had 1000s of hours on heavys of many varieties.

This clip was the Paris Airshow with the first "fly by wire" airbus meaning no control cables to the flight controls, only wires to actuators trough a computer, pilot tried everything to get control but the computer was frozen. All these aircraft are fly by wire now.

It is a FACT the Pilot was new to 777. It is a FACT he had never flown into SFO. It is a FACT his trainer had never trained anyone in a real flight scenario for 777.

Now back to the train carnage. Sounds like more and more deaths will be piling up.

yea heard 3/4 had over 10k hours.. interesting about the auto throttle.. remember seeing someone mention that a lot of these accidents seem to have some connection to 'automated services'
