Nice to see some new talent on the scene, I don't see a new SRV but I like it anyway!

Love it! thanks for posting. Good find. I hadn't heard him before. He has a kind of Clapton with Cream tone to his guitar. Love this kind of stuff.

(having said all that, it's not really the same style or as effortlessly flowing as SRV was...)

that tone! wow. reverb city

it's diff than srv, although he does seem to be true to the blues standards, like vaughn, but that guitar solo @ 3-4 minutes is ridunkuculous! that's some fret work right?

I was fortunate to see Stevie Ray perform live on his Superstitious tour. I remember that night well as it was on Friday the 13th and there was a full moon that night. Have been a big fan of SRV since the early 80's. He's one of my "go-to" artists I can play when I don't really know what I want to hear.

Thanks for posting this. I had not heard of Gary Clark Jr before today. He is certainly a talented guitarist and it's nice to see someone stepping up to the plate for the blues.

Sounds much more like the Black Keys than SRV, especially his vocals.

Very good, but different than SRV, Stevie had a way of making the guitar sound like he was almost hurting it. I too count myself among those fortunate enough to see SRV live

isn't it true he did not use a lot of guitar effects either? no pedals, etc? all guitar and amp?

i know that music scene in austin, starting with antone's club *frowns* on effects but gary clark jr seems to use a few, that numb song above has to use a distortion pedal, can't get that level from just going to 11 on the volume, prolly weven on that vibra-king amp, still learning about amps thoug.

anyhoo, clark jr does seem to try to keep more with the srv blues style than some of the other modern-day blues artists, which i dig, all of em!

i like the black keys a lot more than clark jr right now, been listening to them much longer, but they sound much more rock/ pop to me. like jack white, his blues style of play is filtered through grunge rock + punk. not saying dan aeurbach sounds or plays like jack white, but they both seem to meld other musical styles into their songs than clark does.

to my ears anyway.

i hear what y'all are saying, there won't ever be another stevie ray vaughn or even the *next* srv, hopefully though, he can keep it going for several lps and be the next modern blues legend.

There's just no fuckin with SRV.

I'm no guitar enthusiast, but imo he had the rare combo of technical ability and soulful playing that only the greats possess. I like BB King for similar reasons, less technical but he always makes me feel every note.

if you like that down and dirty acoustic blues, this guy is a 1 man band, cranks all those blues tones out of 1 guitar, a 59 epiphone, i believe, and a vintage amp.

I like it, great voice!

For some damn reason, I was thinking of Jim Stafford and what he could do on an acoustic guitar, even had nylon strings, this is the guy that brought the song the Streak!!!

He breaks into flight of the bumble bee at one point, who plays that on an acoustic with nylon strings?

these guys have a silly name and are not known at all, from australia, but the blues riff in in this track is fantastic

I actually saw SRV in the Valley View Casino Center in San Diego in 1990 a few months before he died.... I drove down from LA for the show and I was right in front. It was one of those life shattering moments watching him play... like the voice of god coming down through his fingers...... and I fricken cried when I heard the news of his death two months later.... :-(

Joe Bonamassa is doing some pretty good stuff out there also...
