Also, unpaid interns are pretty much business as usual for many many companies. And sure, it's often just used as a free trial run for a possible future employee hire (rather than commiting resources to someone who may not work out), but to say this somehow indicates they're in dire straits is either disingenuous or shows you're unaware of some common business practices.

I usually like your work, but all this sounds like a big reach unless you can provide backup details...

I would think a large company would list a site, company name, or phone number. I also think an ad would go through approval and somebody would catch any grammatical errors (most likely).

As for a company firing people and avoiding the question, it's a question that no business needs to answer really unless they are a publicly listed company and have to report to shareholders, only then have I heard about things when it's thousands of jobs or Bloomberg news worthy.
