Tumblr Traffic for Mainstream

Any of you guys have luck on using tumblr for mainstream traffic? I started my tumblr blog in August and upon creation I checked it as "NSFW." I followed all of CrakREvenue's advice and I can't get a single visitor after 100+ posts now. Sure, I could do a lot more. I could add reddit, twitter, and all that. But this was a test. The test failed. I'm not going to do all that other stuff if I don't see anything at all. It's like trying to resurrect a dead horse. My intuition tells me this just ain't working.

So I'm thinking why not just choose a topic I like. Like for instance... let's take Oreo Cookies for example. Create a tumblr Orego blog. Post pictures of Oreos and then have it lead to your Oreo fan website with each picture. Then just throw up some ads. What do you all think of this? What's the legality rule with photos on tumblr? As far as copyright?

To post as much as 24 times a day you really need to reblog stuff. I think with mainstream you wouldn't have to be so excessive if you don't have as much competition with given niche.

If everytyhing else fails, balst the tumblr blog with 100k profile links, I managed to get 2 tumblr blogs on page one (2 out of 2). Sure, not very competitive KWs and no idea how long they will stay there, but beats waiting 300 years to get 20 visitors from Google

This is one of those DOA (Dead On Arrival) threads that I created. You just never know on GFY.

All I was looking for was some concurrence. That maybe tumblr is better for mainstream because the NSFW really kills it.

It's been a while since I worked Tumblr but yes I know that NSFW thing caused some problems and made it harder for a while than it was a year ago. Mainstream could work out on it but I don't think something like Oreos would work too well though that is just an example. You'll want to try to make it go viral so something funny or shocking in some way would have a far better chance. That is what I would shoot for.

The thing about mainstream is with some niches you still have a good chance to make some money even if you can only get 50 people clicking through a day. In adult 50 people clicking through every day might buy you a grape after a couple weeks.

Copyright is the same a you would normally expect. If you didn't create it and you haven't bought the rights then technically you can't post it unless you have permission. But I haven't heard too much about Tumblr taking a lot of stuff down for copyrights. Copyright infringement is rampant on Tumblr.

Interesting take. Thank you. Yes, it seems majority of tumblr blogs are using copyrighted material. You'd have to really come up with interesting images to be success otherwise. Something that the Crak team did point out is to make funny quote posts. I did that and that was the most popular reblog I've had. Imagine that. I didn't put my link in that one, though. I only link every so often.
