I just got hosed on my new 2014 insurance plan. Thanks, Obama!

What is this shit? Beginning on January 1, 2014 my boyfriend and I (dumb Obama made it so that domestic partners could go on a plan together) will both have this insurance for a little over $800/mo:

Blue Cross
No deductible
$2k out of pocket annual limit (including copays)
$10 doctor visit
$20 specialist vist
$10 prescriptions

THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS! THIS SHIT WOULD HAVE ONLY COST $799.95 BEFORE OBAMACARE! HEALTHCARE PRICES ARE SKYROCKETING!

That price is so manageable that I decided to skip seeing if we could have any subsidies... don't need them... plus the site to check is down since the government is shut down.

(Wasn't Minte saying that the deductible was going to be too much for most people? $0 is indeed too much for us!)

I took a brief look at my available plans... I will end up saving about $30 per month and get a MUCH better plan than I had up until about a year ago. I cancelled it because my rates kept increasing by about $30 each year and I wasn't even using it.

Yeah, I don't actually know if it was more or less before, but it sounds about right. With my pre-existing condition and frequent utilization, I opted for a higher premium with no deductible, low total out of pocket and cheap visits. I was previously paying $230 (then went down to $205 in 2013) for a 80/20 plan with a $2k deductible and then a $6k out of pocket limit.

At the end, if I utilize the plan a lot (guaranteed), it will probably end up being on par with the 80/20 with the highest out of pocket, but I like the simplicity of knowing that for X a month, a doctors visit will cost Y, or this prescription will cost Z.

At first the hospital inpatient copay seemed like a turnoff, but then I realized my annual out of pocket maximum is $2k so it doesn't matter. The ER visit and urgent care copays were on par with most plans, but again, only goes up to $2k per year before being 100% covered.

$800 a month is way more than most people can afford (yeah yeah, government will help out some.) I've looked at a few of the packages, for packages that the average person can afford ($100-$200 per person), the deductibles are $10,000 and more, and my market is an extremely competitive market. Markets that are not as competitive, who knows how they shape up.

I know you are excited about the Messiah doing the Lords work, but Minte wasn't wrong.

Well with no obamacare you wouldn't even be able to get insurance because of a preexisting condition. So that alone is worth it
Is that the silver plan or did you go gold

What Minte doesnt realize they cover annual check ups and other things that dont fall under the deductible. That used to cost my mom $400 now its zero. Labs test now are included and cost nothing.

The essential health benefits include at least the following items and services:

Ambulatory patient services (outpatient care you get without being admitted to a hospital)
Emergency services
Hospitalization (such as surgery)
Maternity and newborn care (care before and after your baby is born)
Mental health and substance use disorder services, including behavioral health treatment (this includes counseling and psychotherapy)
Prescription drugs
Rehabilitative and habilitative services and devices (services and devices to help people with injuries, disabilities, or chronic conditions gain or recover mental and physical skills)
Laboratory services
Preventive and wellness services and chronic disease management
Pediatric services
Covered benefits are the health care services that your insurer pays for under your plan. You may still be required to pay a copayment or coinsurance, but the service is recognized by your plan. By comparison, if a service is not covered ? such as an elective surgery or chiropractic care ? you would be responsible for 100% of the associated costs.

The Essential Health Benefits are the minimum requirements for all plans in the Marketplace; certain plans will offer additional coverage, but no plan can offer less.

Hate to tell you this, but that is a decent plan and price for two people. If you have per-exciting conditions, this is a really good deal.

If you raise up your out of pocket costs, your monthly will go down significantly.

For example, take your copay and Rx plan to $40 or $50 more and look into a health savings account -- this is PRE tax dollars you can use. If you dont have a lot of prescriptions or go to the doctor often, this will work better.

Most people, and no offense to you, but are suckers when it comes to health insurance and want the lowest cost possible, hence why insurance companies make a ton of money. When I had to buy a plan on my own a few years ago, I put the highest limits because I never go to the doctor, so I was okay with paying a $50 copay.

My wife on the other hand is a frequent visitor of the doctor and often sick, so for her plan, we chose something with a lower copay and figured out the cost benefit.

At the end of the day, it's not the doctors making more money, its the insurance providers on both ends

Accepting people with pre-existing conditions is going to get expensive unless there is a cap on what is paid out.

Now, compare that to the majority of people who already have employer provided health insurance. Which is the large majority of adults. You will see how that great rate for the poorer people in the country is being subsidized.

As I've said numerous times. obamacare is nothing but another tax on the middle-class to *hopefully* aid those less fortunate.

edit: The despicable part is that obama couldn't get the money out of the wealthy and simply dumped it all on the backs of the middle class.

My healthcare costs will be going up from $0. I'm a healthy guy in my early 30s that hasn't needed to visit a doctor in 5 years.

You're welcome, everybody.

Sure he "could" have and tried to. But he caved in and didn't repeal the Bush Tax Cuts which are costing America too much money still because of Republican intransigence on the matter. It's Americas mental illness those tax cuts that don't create a single job and cost us billions in revenue. That's the sole reason you can say it's on the increasingly fictional middle class that used to exist.

On what planet were the Bush Tax cuts not repealed ??

Or does the payroll tax on everyone, the additional percentage on high earners, the increase medicare taxes, the increase in estate taxes, higher unemployment taxes, and a bunch of hidden taxes not count ?

He has a proclivity for buggery. The GOV is just satisfying his needs.

The healthcare system is about as fucked as the tax system in the US. As is the banking system. Hmmm, I wonder why?

yah i thought it was absolutely hilarious that the dems were on tv blabbing that a single mom who makes 47k per year can cover herself and her kid for just over 650.00 a month and that was affordable to them. LOL. thats like a range rover payment to a single mom. where the hell are they gonna get that money? 47k per year isn't shit, and their subsidy was something tiny. this shit is flawed.
