And the plot thickens, California's obamacare website cost $183 million to build
SACRAMENTO, Calif; June 27, 2012 – Accenture (NYSE: ACN) has been selected by the State of California, following a competitive bid process, to implement a statewide health insurance exchange, the California Healthcare Enrollment, Eligibility and Retention System (CalHEERS). The contract award overall was valued at $359 million, comprised of $183 million for initial development and implementation (to be completed by October 2013) and $176 million for continued development and operating costs over approximately three and a half years following the implementation.
http://newsroom.accenture.com/news/a...e-exchange.htm And as it turns out these companies have apparently contracted out most of the work to other cheap labor countries.

At the least, even if the system worked, some foreigner will have all your vitals. What could they possibly do with ALL OF YOUR information anyway?
![]() But the identity harvesting copy cat sites don't cost that much to build and they work like a champ. I sure hope nobody puts their vital information into one of those! ![]() |

Well, you can apparently either toss any astronomical bid out there and hope you beat out everyone else's astronomical bid or you can phone a buddy or two and convince him this is the best number for you both. Which do you think is more likely?
Sad part is those that don't have any clue about anything whatsoever much less websites will be like, "So, Miley is worth that much."

The article seems to say the entire application integration and development was $183 mil, not just the website.

That is peanuts if that all it ends up costing. Look up the cost of one of their prior projects, e-health in ontario canada. When they get that number up into the billions by giving millions in overinflated no-bid consultant positions to their buddies then you can start complaining.
Edit: I think I am confusing that with the other canadian company that was hired to do the healthcare.gov site. There was a thread about it earlier. |
