Breaking Bad: Anthony Hopkins Letter

I'm surprised it hasn't been posted here on GFY already....

Apparently academy award winning actor Anthony Hopkins wrote Cranston a letter after binge watching the entire series. It's a pretty solid recommendation for anyone who still hasn't seen the show.

"Your performance as Walter White was the best acting I have seen - ever."

They ended it at the right time before it goes on and on and they jump the shark.

They were offered 25 million per episode by Dreamworks to do 3 more episodes and they turned it down. It would have been more money from those 3 episodes than they made on the entire series in the 5 years prior. Clearly they thought ending it was the right thing to do and they were more interested in creating a legacy than in cashing out.

hopkins deserves yet another accolade for penning that gushing/kissass letter. cranyston/walter white is the best acting he's ever seen in the history of film making?

umm, no.

so cranston's walter white is better acting than hopkins' hannibal lector. no.

that's just 1. he's great on tele, don't get me wrong, i've enjoyed all of his characters, from seinfeld, even before, to malcom, and on to bb.

but there are scores of characters acted better that ww, sir hopkins being one of them.

celebrity endorsement = pfft. just look at me stuff is all it is.

According to Hopkins, who played Lector... it was

I don't know if I'd call it the best television acting ever, Alan Alda on Mash was spectacular and so were people like Jean Stapleton on All In The Family or Danny Devito on Taxi. Heck you could even make a case for Peter Dinklage. I was incredibly impressed with Mark Margolis work on Breaking Bad in a supporting role.... but it's pretty much impossible to unequivocally say Cranston's Walter White wasn't the best. It may or may not have been... and that says an awful lot.

i'd wager that hopkins, like so many of us, was so thoroughly entertained by the show, in its entirety, that he went off and wrote that over-the-top endorsement.

being an actor, he's going to act the part of a gushing viewer/fan. again, well played, sir.

I still think an ending with Walt going into witness protection and the series transitioning into a remake of a Malcolm in the Middle episode would have been very satisfying. If you watch an episode of Malcolm in the Middle with the idea that it's Walt with a new family living a secret life in witness protection that show takes on a whole new flavor.

That would have been fucking hilarious! Walt all befuddled with the kids and psycho wife.

Hopkins was just rocking his reverse modesty. By saying that he just lets everyone know that he is still the best actor to date.

I think that playing a psychopath is not really much of a stretch for an actor since most of them are self-centered narcissists. It's rather a one note character anyway.

Cranston played a full range of emotional responses in the series Breaking Bad maintaining and delivering a consistent level of believably to the character that was rare. So rare that Hopkins though it noteworthy to make the statement about it.

I for one, think he was correct.

So Hopkins wrote that letter for his own benefit did he??

Also it is his opinion, how hard is that to understand? He probably just finished the last season and wanted to pay a compliment to cast and crew.......

there's a reason cranston has never made it to big screen actor level, in what, 35 years of acting.

just like there's a reason hopkins is a big screen actor and has been knighted and received the highest acting awards.
