Easyxsites ends beta and terminates all existing sites - GoFuckYourself.com

It has been a tremendous ride, we have had thousands of webmasters participating and more than 8000 websites created. Sadly, most of these websites are not being used and we understand why - we have had our fair share of problems right up until today.

These problems all related to fundamental flaws in the system architecture that all became apparent when the load on the system was high enough. Because of this, we had two separate and independent parties investigate the best possible solution moving forward and both came to the same conclusion; we had to rewrite the core of the system. Patching was not an option as we would never be able to achieve all the things we wanted. So we made the choice to rewrite everything. This means that we now move away from using Wordpress and TubeAce as the underlying CMS for blogs and tubes.

easyXsites will now be 100% custom coded and that allows us to do some much MUCH cooler things than we could in the past.

But all of this comes at a price, the current sites in the system. We are not going to be able to port any of these into the new easyXsites core system. In other words, we are removing all sites currently in the system.

We have created a plugin, that allows you to export your blog posts and all images and enabled this on all current blogs in the system. Therefore, your blog is not lost, but we cannot host it. We are confident that once you see the non-beta version of easyXsites you will not want to go elsewhere. In order to export posts and files from your blog, go to manage the blog and go to settings, there you will find the plugin.

We have not done anything similar to the tubes, for a number of reasons, but primarily because 99% of the tubes are using sponsor hosted videos and those can be created in the new system in a matter of minutes.

We are moving all users to the new system and as a token of our appreciation; we are giving EVERYONE that created a user during the beta test a full month of premium membership when the new site is live.

So all the sites you created are lost.
But you get a month of premium for something that remains to be seen soon.

You are right.
Let me paraphrase that.
Every site you had will now not exist. Everything you did to promote them is lost. Everything you did for SEO is lost. Every link you got is wasted.
Apart from that, you can still get your blog back by backup.
But I'm not complaining, it was free and you get what you paid. Hope it gets better with the new system. They seem awfully kind and it was OK service, while it lasted.

To get back on topic

Yes. We are killing the existing system and unfortunately that also means we have to kill all the existing sites. This is not something I am doing for fun, because the existing system represents a pretty big investment that I am more or less just throwing out the window.

It's been a very bumpy ride and I have for a very long time, not at all been happy with the performance or the development level we were at. It's been in open beta for a year and we still have some very basic problems.

Some time ago, I had two independent parties review the system. One of them I have worked for a while with in mainstream and the other is in adult too. Both came to the same conclusion: It's better and faster, to rebuild the whole system than it is to fix the old one.

Since we have rewritten everything we won't be able to port any of the existing sites over, well we could, but we'd have to spend a lot of time parsing data (we're talking months here). I manually checked a large number of sites based on traffic and the vast majority was either broken, not updated or just not of a very high quality.

Most of the sites were blogs, but I have had a plugin build as was pointed out - so you can export everything and go elsewhere. I can see that there are competitors with wordpress based technology in here that would love to host your sites.

The tubes are almost all with sponsor embeds and you can rebuild tube sites in the new system that are:

- more flexible and looks a whole lot better.
- are created in maximum 20 seconds.
- can auto update and spin the content
- loads much faster and are of responsive design so they work on all platforms (so you won't be hit by the latest Google smartphone update)
- use a huge legal content database we have in our system, so importing content is very easy and can be done in a number of ways - no more waiting up to 2 minutes for a freaking list to load!

The blogs are also written from the ground up and will be able to work more flexible and requires less resources to run than Wordpress (that is quite a hog when it comes to consumption). They can auto update, spin content and do a bunch of cool stuff.

But I can certainly understand the frustration. This is not something I wanted to do, but I also didn't want to keep offering people a service that didn't really work properly. My goal is to help people make money here (and make some myself too obviously) and the current state the system is in is just not making it easy. At all.

The non-beta version draws on all the experiences we've had over the last year (except the technician that built the existing system has been let go and new people have built the new) and I am confident that people will like it.

We are also freeing up the thousands of sub-domains that was registered but never used, implementing new ticket based support systems and introducing a premium function that allow you to edit more or less everything on your sites. No more locked ugly templates!

Sorry man. You were using a free service that was in beta. If that stuff was as important as you are making it sound, it should have been hosted somewhere else.

No. We'll always have a free service and expect the majority of the users to use that - but if you want to be able to edit stylesheets on sites and have more freedom you can buy a premium membership and customize your sites in any way you see fit. We only expect "advanced / experienced webmasters" to go that route, since you need some CSS skills to make things look good.

We plan to go live with the new system on the 16th, we have some final testing to do tomorrow (that big ass storm and me being called out 18 hours kinds messed with my testing planning) before I can commit to that date - when we take the existing system down, we'll put up a counter so it's clear to everyone when we'll open again.

I understand moving away from Wordpress, but TubeAce is relatively easy to optimize into something that can scale, and only has 3 or 4 known exploits that need to be patched.

No, but you can see when we open when the system is taken down on the 12th and then go grab it when we go live.

We we are moving all the users to the new system so it's a matter of signing in, updating your password and choosing a display name (we need everyone to have one for something cool we'll release in January) and then register away.

Well we found a lot more than that and patched them when we had a security company look it over, we also send the report to Chris.

I don't think you read it all or understand. We do care. But AK has never sent a single e-mail or reported any sites anywhere other than on GFY when he seems to find some totally random thread to post things in. I am a rights holder myself, my company owns exclusive and non-exclusive licenses for several terabytes of content. So we do not in any way want to profit from or be affiliated with pirates. For sure!

In the non-beta version of easyXsites, you can report a site and the owner (and support) will have an open ticket so they can act on it. If they don't we will.

So no, we won't act on reports made on GFY with no actual documentation that it's the rights holder complaining, but rather point people to where they can create a real report and provide the proper documentation. I will double check this with legal later today, but I think they will tell me to stop responding to public allegations and wait for an official complaint.

He had my e-mail and could have started a productive dialogue as he said he would months ago - that way I might even have had some special reporting tools built for him - but he choose drama because that makes him visible. He steps on people and expect us all to jump to his tune. Not happening.

Besides, I think I've said what needs to be said about AK and his operation. He can throw all the dirt he wants, fact is that our aim is not to harbor pirated or illegal content and when it's properly reported it will be processed (as it has in the past). He also still has to prove what rights owners he represents or what rights he owns, until that happens it's just slander..

Maybe AK should start with Google, that's the source of 99.9% of all piracy anyways. Or focus on what he started out with; File lockers. I don't much care. Why am I even debating this. I'm done with AK and his people.

I know, it makes me very sad as well and this is certainly not something I've chosen to do because I want to. It was never planned. The plan was very different! But it's the only way to create a viable product that can live up to our goals and I think that down the road, people will see that a working service is a whole lot better than something that breaks every time we start to see certain volumes of traffic. The alternative would've have been to just leave it as is (very broken) and never look back and just pay the hosting fees and do a bit of support here and there. Or close it entirely.

We want to do better. We can do better. This is the right move. But I know some people will not be very happy and I understand. That's why we build the export plugin allowing people to export their sites so they don't loose "as much" as if we'd just killed it all.

I should have done more and sooner, I know that, I've been caught up in a lot of things this past year (two legal battles with the ex-wife, a full firemans education in the evening and weekends, opening up new paysites and affiliaite programs and building 8 major mainstream products for customers) and while that's no excuse to do proper project management, it's at least an explanation.
