Why do affiliate programs not pay bitcoins yet?

It seems like an excellent fit.

Avoiding the costs for wire and more flexible then Paxum.
No risk since companies like bitpay can do a direct conversion.

What am I missing?

It's a good concept (I like the option) however what if the bitcoin value goes for a shit or you can't find someone to buy them?

Thank you, man!

True, that's a pioneer scheme so we'd prefer to keep it confidential.
But if you wanna work with us and get bitcoins, just hit us up and we'll discuss all details.

Being an affiliate you can sell them the moment you receive them if you do not want to take the risk.
btc-e and bitstamp are good options.

For the affiliate programs there would be no risk what so ever since they can convert direc tly

We have had a discussion with BitPay in regards to this, and they liked the idea of making it on their end when we asked them a while ago.

Their main concern was fraud, and we agreed, so it will be interesting to see how they set it up on their end.

Ill let you know when I know more about this, and the moment they have a good solution for it, we will of course also implement that into the current BitPay processor option in MPA3.

That sounds interesting.
I do not see any reason why paying affiliates in bitcoins would carry a higher level of fraud then transactions they are allready doing for other companies though?
Maybe you should hit them up again. They might have changed their pov by now?

The USD and all currencies change in value each and every day.

Bitcoin changes a lot more sure, but there are systems already created to adjust accordingly (bitpay?)

We believe it can be done fairly easy and we could do it for our clients. We prefer the biller, BitPay, sets it up but we can do it. We haven't spent much time on it because honestly there are not a lot of our clients using them YET. When we see more traction, we will do it...

If they wait 60 minutes or so (6+ blocks confirmations) before to pay out the affiliate commission, it should be safe. I think it is just they got not many requests yet worth to focus on this.

Because right now Bitcoin is based on the same thing as the US dollar. NOTHING.

I have a box full of Monopoly money and plan to start using that soon.

1. The value of bitcoin is very volatile
2. There isn't as large of a backbone for support and services as standard currency
3. Financial systems aren't in place to handle fraud and security as currently exists for standard currency
4. There is no insurance or institutionalized backing as there is with standard currency

Well today the price is falling - who wants to be paid in something that is reducing in value everyday. Tomorrow it might be rising then suddenly every webmaster is changing his payout method !

Can Bitpay suddenly get hold of unlimited coins when the demand turns ? Or are they stuck with huge quantities when the price is falling ?

Pretty silly question really.
