Password Protect Wordpress
Hey,
Is there a way to password protect Wordpress so that Google will spider the site however nobody will be able to access any pages without using a predetermined password? I don't want users to register though. I want them to be able to contact me privately and issue a pass. |

If you are using apache (this gives free access to google bot and asks any other user for a password):
Require valid-user Allow from <google_ip_range1> <google_ip_range2> ... Satisfy Any (details here: httpd.apache.org/docs/current/mod/mod_access_compat.html) Getting Google IP address ranges might be tricky: support.google.com/webmasters/answer/80553?hl=en

Sounds like what you want is a custom members area mod for wordpress. You can probably have one written for you relatively cheap at a site like odesk.com
By default wordpress allows you to set all posts to private, but the problem is, that sets it private for Google as well.

that would be retarded, as it would be cloaking and google would ban you.
didnt we just go over this lesson with plugrush? but if you insist, do some research on "allow google bot only, via htaccess" in google. |
