I remember when...

...you put a key in the car ignition and just drove the car.

Shyte - I just spent the last few hours in the driveway reading the owner's manual for our new car...and feel more stupid than when I started.

This thing has more gizmos, custom settings and hoojamajinkies than a spaceshuttle (well, almost).

Do I really need a multi-setting, auto-dimming rearview mirror with built-in digital compass, programmable garage door opener and....???

Now I'm talking to my dashboard - voice activated commands.

Feels like the onset of early senility.

Driving your car is so yesterday. Let Google do all the driving for you.

Hasn't argued yet...but it's hard of hearing. It keeps telling me to, "say again..."

For a guy who used to consider himself somewhat of a 'techie' - I feel a bit like a luddite in my 50s.

I'm more of a "learn as I go" kind of guy.

Anyway, I look at all those fancy gadgets as just another thing to stop working when I really need it. I remember when the driver side power window on my Mustang GT had stopped working. It was only the second week I had the car and I was wishing I had a hand crank window.

I'm usually that way, too. I was just hoping to avoid that inevitable slap to my own forehead when I realize six months from now about a feature I never figured out from the start.

For sure, failed power windows is a big PITA. I'm just crossing my fingers and hoping for the best this time around. In the past I've bought certain vehicles without power options just to keep'em simple and hopefully trouble-free.

I just couldn't turn down the good price we got on this fully loaded rig, though.

It's worse when it's the first car with power windows you've owned, and you very excited about not having to crank your windows.

I remember how excited I was when I traded my VW bug for a super-beetle and picked up that 2 inch dashboard lol.

You are pretty stupid if you haven't figured out you can just get into your car and just drive. Yeah, you have gizmos but... You don't really need them.

I love my new Jeep. Put the key in my pocket, and I don't even so much as need to push a button to unlock the car, and only push start to start it. Sweet. I don't need an auto dimming rear mirror or even a reverse cam - I've lived 45 years without both and I am still around.

I do like the lighted cup holders however.

You've lived 45 years without keyless entry and push button start - but you have it now. Someone still using a key and ignition on the column might just call that feature a 'gizmo'.

Naw, I was after certain features like the dual moonroof, heated leather seats (front and rear), Infinity sound system and the nav system - the other misc. gizmos were just part of the 'luxury' package. (and yeah, it has push button ignition...still getting used to that).

I figured what the hell...I'll play Buck Rogers for a few years with the new toys. I'll have to program the voice command to accept profanity.

It just feels like an old dawg having to learn a few new tricks.

We just got back from a cruise over to Niagara Falls with it. Thoroughly enjoyed the car.

Congrats on the Jeep.

We actually looked at a new Jeep Wrangler - took a sport edition out for a testdrive. Nearly made a deal on one until I realized the gas mileage they get.

As much fun as the Jeep would've been (we rented one in Aruba back in January)...I needed an everyday commuter vehicle.
