My China Trip

Nihao

I just got back and for some reason I have a bunch of energy
I've been eating Chinese food for 2 weeks, so I picked up a 1/4 lb burger on the way home.

Found this guy, a General Vendzilla with the Terra Cotta Warriors

We we started in Shanghai
I couldn't believe all the construction going on, high rise cranes everywhere.
They really don't have normal traffic laws, more like suggestions. But I saw 4 way intersections with 3 lanes each way and pedestrians crossing without a traffic light and it worked.
Lights on the cop cars are always on, tons of electric scooters.
No drinking water from the tap there.

The food was great, but glad to be back, the people were fun. They stared at anyone over 6 ft tall, being 6'3", I got a lot of them asking to pose with me. made for some fun.

After leaving Shanghai, we boarded a river cruise and went 425 miles down the Yangtze river. Were we saw the largest dam in the world, the 3 gorges dam. We went thru the loch system to get past it.

Saw an island that they surrounded with a wall to protect it, the Red Pagota. It had 99 steps inside. I got a good work out every day just keeping up with everything.

In a little while, I'll post more. Trying to get unpacked a little. Bought a lot of stuff, we were in the biggest Jade factory in the world

Cool pics and some info to go with them is always welcome.

Have to admit though China has never really been on my "places to visit" list. But hey that's just me...

Very cool. Growing up my Dad used to go there a lot for work. He loved it and was always amazed at the amount of money that moved through Hong Kong.

Growing up during the cold war and serving during it, I never thought I would visit it, but glad I did, it was truly an amazing trip. We walked thru a big park one day and danced with locals . Being totally accepted. Funnest day there. I bought a big wooden top that gets propelled by a kind of whip, it's a work out just to use it, it's fun!

I think anyone would have a grand adventure there

LOL, we did the great wall, According to Mao, if you set foot on the great wall, you are a hero.
I found this funny, when Richard Nixon visited China, the day he was to Visit the great Wall, they had a big snow storm.
So they changed the location of where he was to visit.
The section he ended up visiting is called the Water gate Section. This was before the Watergate Scandal

I'll get those up, right now, here's some pics from the silk factories. These are not paintings, they are sewn in fabric from silk

It turned out to be perfect for weather and smog levels.

Temp was perfect I think too, only wore my GFY hodie a couple times.

I did not wear it at the tinimen square, wasn't going to even try and piss off anyone there.

They had fire extinguishers everywhere because of people setting them selves on fire.

I had a guy try to sell me a fake Rolex. I told him it wasn't big enough and then he saw the watch I was wearing and left me alone.

We were careful and got the things you can only get there. The Jade factory we went to was the the biggest in China and was state ran. We got certs for each purchase. My girl spent $1000 usd for a bracelet and a couple pendants.

They run Asians thru a security check, but not westerners. They figure westerners have no reason to do that to themselves. Our tour guide made sure we knew the do's and don'ts before we got out there, the security was highest in the country there. Tinimum Square was in front of the 4 surviving gates to the forbidden palace. We probably walked 5 miles or more just going thru the gates to see it all.

When we were there they were honoring students for outstanding achievements. I'll have more pictures up soon, probably put up the jade factory pics next. I bought a jade ball, it has a ball inside of it and a ball inside that all from one piece, white jade. I didn't know there were so many different colors of jade. Ever heard of gold pearls? I best pearls come from the lake at the summer palace, but the gold pearls come from the South China Sea.

Oh ADG, I think about you, I bought some China Porn, just a bunch of nudes of Chinese woman. Ding Ding Ding Hao!!!

Just got some tacos, starting to feel normal again!

Just look up Gate 1 Travel, they have some great packages

Next year it's South Dakota, Sturgis 75th for our Honeymoon on the Harley.

This is from the largest Jade factory in China, so I think it's probably the biggest period.
It's state owned and the pieces we bought were backed by certs from China. My girl got a beautiful Jade bracelet that she will probably wear for the rest of her life and then pass it on to my daughter. I got a jade ball, white jade!!

Sorry some are blurry, I left my glasses on the bus

This guy goes for about $50k USD

No artificial in this store. It's ran by the state and has the highest standards in the world for jade. Jadeite being the best, that's what my girls bracelet is made of. The Chinese believe that Jade is a living thing. It changes color over time, more translucent.

The girls we very pretty. But I had my fiance with me. Wasn't really looking that much.

While I was on the cruise ship on the river, I got the best massage ( Without a happy ending) I have ever got.

Good stuff.

We plan on getting over there in the near future.

Gate 1 Travel, ask to get Joan for a tour guide. You just can't go wrong.

This was the perfect time of year, don't travel first week of May or October, that's when China has the biggest crowds because they like to travel during that time. They are encouraged to.

Some more fun facts

While most people would think it's a Socialist country, it's more of a capitalist country than one would think.

All drinking water comes from bottles or is boiled. Never from the tap.

If you say Wall-Eye-Knee, that means I Love You.
NiHao, or Knee How means Hello

Shieh Shieh means Thank You
while She She means it stinks

Ding Ding Ding Hao means very good, more Dings means better

"Mama Who Who" means so so

They have an Alcohol called fire water, watch out, it's 104 proof.

Got a little hammered at dinner one night.

Best dinner we had was a sampler of 18 different kinds of dumplings. So tasty!!

Great pictures! Thanks for sharing.

The jade sculptures and paintings are just fantastic.

Being a foreigner, did you find any kind of hostility or get endlessly bothered by people trying to sell you something?

Being 6'3" I got a lot of attention. People wanted to take there picture with me. It was funny. When you went past the many little market stands, some of the vendors got aggressive. My girl told one woman she was going to smack her if she didn't back the fuck off, her words. She learned how to say it in Chinese. I told one guy NO loudly and that worked. When they got that aggressive , we didn't even look at what they had to sell.

At a park we went to, we were treated like guests. They did a community kind of work out and we participated. Lots of different things going on, I danced with the locals and they loved it, mainly because of my size I guess. Then I some people spinning these huge tops with a whip, I bought one and joined in. Still have it. That was the best day for me, because of the people there, the culture we shared. Doing Tai Chi

I've been all over the world, I've been to the Orient before, but China has been the most interesting place I have ever been to. The old world feeling mixed in with them working so hard to become a modern country. It was amazing. , but right now, waiting to get back to a regular sleeping schedule.

You are wrong,

Read this
http://asianhistory.about.com/od/gov...-Socialism.htm

The socialist market economy is the economic model employed by the People's Republic of China

What I saw there leads me to believe it's a one of a kind place and can't be compared to any other country in the world. We saw a very large chunk of the country, going from Shanghai to Beijing , even spent 425 miles on the River there, stopping every night to visit.

Yeah that's me, It's a good hoodie and it was funny when I ran across people that read English. I wore it for some selfie's with my Girl.

I remember when people told me to not look american when I went to Europe. I wore a t shirt with Lincoln playing the drums and the base drum was the American flag and Lincoln was wearing sunglasses. That's how I roll, larger than life!

I encourage everyone to have a vacation, get out of your comfort zone and see the world, if you have done half of what I have done in my life, then you have had a life!

Amazing pictures.... Amazing culture. Seems they have come a long way in the past twenty years and have blended the old culture with the new in an interesting way.
