any 'dog whispering' mother fuckers here?

my dog really hates the guy living in the guest house... always tries to jump the guy and pull him down to the ground.... now that might be cute with a regular dog, but not when my dog is almost six feet tall standing up and weighs in close to 170 pounds....

the guy has been pretty cool about it, just ignores Killer, pretends he's not even there but I sure would like to break that habit...thoughts?

Why would you do that?

If your dog doesn't normally have an issue with most people, then listen to your dog, he's telling you that there's something off with your guest

Yes I can help you but I don't have time if you're not serious. Do you have a prong collar for Killer? What level of dog training experience do you have? Does Killer know any commands very well?

Invite William around for dinner a few times - Make sure 'Killer' is firmly put in his place while he is there - Make William part of the pack and more senior than the dog in the pecking order...

not so sure I'm ready for a prong collar...I'll check into it... thing is the dog isn't on a leash at home running around the yard.. I live on 6 acres and the guy lives in a small guest house out back...comes and goes as he pleases... not much experience right now.. waiting for killer to get a bit older then going for therapy dog training.. plus my schedule is shit because I shoot content right now

I know Mastiff's in general are gentle dogs, that being said should he ever have an altercation provoked or not I wouldn't want to be defending a dog named Killer.

Why not have the guy sit in the yard, somewhere neutral. Killer offleash, let him greet the guy normally. Let them just hang out. Don't force the dog to approach, but encourage it. Give the guy treats to hand out. No eye contact with the dog. Just be cool.

If Killer has dominance issues, that could be a different problem. If he's reacting the guy's fear, then this is fixable somewhat. Why is he greeting the guy by jumping on him? Does he have no "four on the floor" policy with other humans?

not sure... Killer is VERY aggressive with William, William just ignores him....strangest thing I ever saw.... some times Killer will listen to me and run away yelping when I yell at him for doing it... the dog is an emotional wreck for sure.. might have something to do with Williams dog.... that dog used to jump Killer and kick his ass when he was a puppy... not any more but I guess Killer is still pissed about it? and William never goes anywhere with out his dog

When i was there i told them to just put a large towel inside, by back door. Instead of the dogs running mad into house they stopped right there by door and laid on the towel.

Not sure how that helps with sick balls chopper oranything at all, gl though

So it's not just William, it's his dog too.

William is doing the absolute best thing by ignoring Killer. Maybe William could start bringing treats in his pockets whenever he crosses through the yard. Sit still somewhere neutral and let Killer approach. Treat on approach, even if he has the toss the treat in the dog's direction. Walk away casually. Just try this many, many times but without William's dog in the picture. Put the dog inside or somewhere else where he can't interfere or get protective.

Good luck!

I'd listen to your dog...... however, if that's not an option...

If you can control him very well, get the other guy and his dog to walk around you and Killer while you have Killer on a leash and sitting next to you. You and other fella engage in casual conversation for 5-10 minutes. Repeat until Killer doesn't try to kill.

That's just one thing to do, but it works for our working GSD's. My Skype is in my sig if you have any other questions.

Edit: Forgot to say, if you don't have 100% control / obedience with Killer, do not at all attempt my suggestion. It could end badly. What Elli said above is very solid advice also.

If the dog hated him his throat would be ripped out.

What is his favorite treat? Every dog has one. Get Killer to accept the treats from the guy with successive approximation. Leash him up and have the guy stand about 10 feet away. Get him to put the treat on the ground a few feet away from you and Killer, and then he can walk back to his spot. Take Killer over to get the treat. Keep doing this for a while, then shorten the distance, until Killer takes the treat from his hand. But don't do it in only 2 or 3 moves. Take it slow.

I trained my dog with successive approximation to get him over any anxiety or fearfulness he's ever had.

If Killer bites his hand, you probably shouldn't own a giant dog. Killer is fearful of this guy for some reason. Or maybe he looks like prey because of his body language. When someone acts scared of my Lab, he goes into predator mode instantly and I have to check him quick before he does something rude.

I used to believe in prong collars, but I stopped using them. It basically punishes the dog for not doing as asked. I've found that rewarding for good behavior works better. A pinch in the neck is just giving the dog another thing to be anxious about, and making any situation worse. There's a German Shepherd in my neighborhood that my Lab hates for some reason. He has a thing about any dogs that look wolf-like. Huskies, Shiba-inu, shepherd...

He would lunge at the dog and his prong collar made him yelp a few times. So every time he sees this dog, he'll associate pain with the situation and get aggressive again. It took about a year, but I made sure I always had cookies on walks, and would make him sit as soon as we saw his enemy, which was at least 3 times a week. He gets treats until the dog passes. He slowly got less agitated by the shepherd over months, until he now just looks up at me every time he sees the dog. Even if I don't have a cookie, there's no problem. I had to do the same thing with bikes. I almost had to sit on him when saw a bike rider, but now he pays no attention to them.

Anyway, hope that helps in some way.

This. Jumping up to someone means being happy and wanting to play, pretty obvious... learn him not to jump up to people, it's not rocket science.

prong collars are for people who can't control their dog.

Good luck!
think I'll bring William in the house and see how Killer reacts

If you can control him very well, get the other guy and his dog to walk around you and Killer while you have Killer on a leash and sitting next to you. You and other fella engage in casual conversation for 5-10 minutes. Repeat until Killer doesn't try to kill.

That's just one thing to do, but it works for our working GSD's. My Skype is in my sig if you have any other questions.

Edit: Forgot to say, if you don't have 100% control / obedience with Killer, do not at all attempt my suggestion. It could end badly. What Elli said above is very solid advice also.
I have solid control of Killer so I'll try this

William TOTALLY ignores Killer so he sure doesn't look like prey.. I sill try some of this stuff I'm sick to fucking death of the barking

Anyway, hope that helps in some way.
in public I make Killer sit if there is a possible situation.. at home its' a different story.. he's running wild in the yard at times however I'm going to solve this issue for sure

BTW, William like me works long hours and just wants to be left alone when off... the leaves about 6am and doesn't get home until 6-7pm..... so we don't really 'hang out' plus William has different social goals than I do.... one thing about William that's cool as fuck is he's the only gay guy I know that thinks Obama is a total piece of shit
