And the gas station didn't include the minute or two you wait for the camel-shagging worker to stop reading his "Sleeper Cell Weekly" digest at the counter and activate the gas pump.

Nor the time it takes to contact your bank and change your debit/credit card PIN after the wanker cloned your card and distributed it to his friends & family overseas to buy more AK47s and IED components.

You are more right than you know. Governor Rick Perry made the sales of Tesla cars, which not only emit zero pollution, but are also the safest cars ever made, ILLEGAL in his state of Texas. Of course, this dumb hick denies climate change and sucks the tit of big oil while his great state's lakes disappear, the farms dry up and stop producing food due to the lack of water, and towns that based their economies on those farms are now ghost towns.

"Under the current Texas Occupations Code (TEX OC. This regulation not only affects Sales, but also Service of Tesla vehicles for existing customers"

I'm an adult, like most adults, i understand that freedom has boundaries when you are living with 350 million other people. I also understand that due to laws and such, new ways of doing things also might need an update in those laws, like auto franchise laws in some states.

ANd I realized a long time ago people like you have no fucking idea what they are yapping about.

Texas is a very protective state when it comes to their economy and residents. From their banking laws which until recently prevented branch banking by out of state based institutions to their car franchise laws. Basically they don't want out of state companies without a Texas presence/investment making money off their residents.

Any of you thinking this is somehow connected to our federal government just shows your ignorance. These are STATE of TEXAS regulations. If a Texas resident doesn't like local laws he can move, after all it's a free country.

tsk tsk **********.

Gov. Perry supported legislation last session ? House Bill 3351 ? that would have allowed manufacturers of 100 percent electric cars to sell them directly to consumers.

Your'e showing your ignorance by making a state level law a reflection on the country as a whole.

On the subject of batteries … Aren't they the most expensive component in the car? And won't the exchange program mean you never have to spend money replacing your cars batteries? If so great deal!

I think what happens with the swap is you get whatever pack is charged up and ready at that station, which means it will be a pack left by a previous tesla. That pack could be older, more worn out than the one you swapped it for. So you could end up leaving the station fully charged up but with a pack older than the one you originally bought.

also, the swaps are projected to cost ~$80.

kapitalism is kaput in amerika, see headlines:

Tesla Model S Grabs 8.4% of Luxury Vehicle Sales in US in First Half of 2013

8.4 % is astounding when you consider that plug-in vehicles only represent around 0.53 percent of all new automobiles sold in 2013. So, in this regard, the Model S is way ahead of the curve.

In fact, nobody can buy a Tesla car in Texas. The State of Texas has decided that you can?t buy a car from Tesla.

Why? Well, the Texas Automobile Dealers Association lobbied hard against letting Tesla sell cars in Texas, spending $278,750 on Texas political campaigns ? about 75% to Republicans, (including $2000 to Rep. Dale, the incumbent in the seat I?m running for.) [Editor's Note: On the Texans for Public Justice website, where in addition to the $278,750 from the TX Auto Dealers Assoc. Pac, you can also see the $453,324 from Thomas Dan Friedkin of Gulf State Toyota, the $331,310 from Gulf States Toyota PAC, and $306,500 from B.J. 'Red' McCombs, of the Red McCombs Auto Group. ]

Not sure... the super charging stations let you recharge your car for free, but it takes about 30 minutes. The batter swap gets you charged batteries in 90 seconds but I don't know the cost or if there's a limit. Still a cool idea though.

my only point in posting that was to suggest that the swap may end up being a swap for an older pack.

lets put this in terms your self-serving ass can understand... suppose a company moved into your area and started taking business from you? BTW pandering to the lowest social/economic strata of society for votes might seem cool but think in the long term.... eventually punishing anyone that earns will kill the tax base

I would like some of this "zero emission" electricity.

Do they pull it out thin air at these charging stations?

Another big lie by the OP debunked!

The dealerships that exist are protected by their agreements with their dealerships/auto maker relationship. Pretty long standing arrangements.

Customers are not protected by dealerships as they frequently close with the manufacturer. Try to find a Delorean dealership(found some actually). Still the idea that a dealership is protecting the consumer from the big auto maker seems misplaced.

This was designed to keep one car maker from selling cars in their territory. Pretty anti free market. Also probably not effective as even as dumb as Texans are, they probably know how to buy stuff in other states.

In the early 90's I owned 2 retail stores in San Antonio, Texas. When I went to open bank accounts near each store for deposits I was stunned to learn branch banking wasn't allowed. The reason given was Texas didn't want large out of state banks with hundreds of locations taking deposits, transferring the money out of state to the banks main offices in New York, Charlotte, etc. And in the process depleting the money within the state for reinvestment, loans, etc. ??. Makes sense actually.

the electric tesla car and ktm with its first ever really usable electric motorcycle the freeride E are paving the way to an exciting future...

http://www.ktm.com/freeride/freeride...l#.U26CO4GSxGU

stuff like battery life and range have improved massively in the last 10 years and in the next 10 batteries will out perform regular gas tanks...

electric motors have almost uninterrupted acceleration uphill it is not like with gasoline engines where they loose power and you have to put the pedal down some more (ok for smaller engines and steeper inclines but the principle is true even with bigger engines just to a smaller degree)

it is a developing technology and both the tesla and freeride are FULLY USABLE gasoline alternatives with excellent performance for a new product that JUST came out compared to gasoline's 100 year head start...

electric will be kicking ass in 10 years mark my words...the absence of the engine sound is something I got used to in 10 minutes (I rode the freeride not the tesla). The bike is good for a 30 minute ride (this is a lot for an average joe, offroad riding is very exhausting and 10 minutes of riding a track at medium speed is a lot) with a 90 min recharge time on 220v is quite good for a first electric bike by the company...

in 20 years you will laugh at gasoline cars like you laugh at VHS tapes...

Mark you're really a douche aren't you? pls read the text below..

"Under the current Texas Occupations Code (TEX OC. CODE ANN. § 2301.476), Tesla is unable to sell its vehicles directly to the public because it has no franchised dealer relationships in Texas (or anywhere else in the U.S.). This regulation not only affects Sales, but also Service of Tesla vehicles for existing customers"

it is NOT illegal to Tesla cars, in Texas . wanna play the game... play by the rules...
You can put lipstick on a pig and at the end of the day it's still a pig. Texas had made it illegal for Tesla to sell it's cars in Texas, period.

Texas has a law that states you can only purchase a new car from a franchised dealer. Tesla is a new and small auto manufacturer; They do not have a network of franchised dealers. (And frankly, there is no reason to.) The law exists because they want to "protect the public" because the auto manufacturer might go out of business and if that happens, the franchised dealer would still be able to repair their car. This is ridiculous because of the manufacturer goes out of business, the franchised dealers would close too - The franchised dealers would have no product to sell and no reason to stay in business.

What's really happened here is the franchised dealers have donated to whomever was in office at the time, and this law was created to protect the franchised dealer in the name of protecting the end buyer when in truth it doesn't protect the buyer at all, but only increases the cost of the car itself.

If I was Tesla I would open up dealerships just outside of the state line and say "fuck you".

I would buy a Tesla right now if I had the cash to buy one straight out with no loans.

+ at 10/gallons a minute, like they state, that's a 30 gallon tank, at 20mpg = 600 miles, you'll have to go back for 2 more battery swaps to get that range with the tesla.
