I just switched from Verizon to Tmobile about a month ago. It cost me $260 'early termination fee" to leave Verizon but I was tired of their overpriced service. My monthly bill with Verizon was about $145 and the same package with Tmobile is $50. Made the switch about a month ago and couldn't be happier. Tmobile would have paid that termination fee if I had traded in my phone but it was an almost brand new iPhone 5s so I decided to keep it. We just switched out the sim card and it worked perfectly.

If you sign up and need a phone, they'll finance it for you for 2 years. If you leave before you pay it off, you'll have to finish paying them for the phone but don't have to worry about signing a contract with them. No contracts & no overage fees.

I'm happy with them

As DeanCapture sez, they got decent prices and good customer service.

Their coverage sucks though. I get decent service at my home, but in some buildings it's spotty, and if I'm ever out of town or god forbid head anywhere semi-rural, my service cuts out 50 miles before anyone else's does.

T-Mobile does not work at my place. I live right next to downtown. This is in Austin Texas.

Right now they have something going on where they will pay early termination fees.

Yes but only if you trade in your phone for a new one when you sign up. I didn't want to trade in my phone because it was almost new iPhone 5s and it was paid for.... so I kept it.

I have T-Mobile, 3 lines, unlimited talk, text and data. First line is $50, second is $30, and each additional line after that is $10. We were getting capped at 500MB of 4G data per line, but I noticed the other day they raised it to 1GB per line at 4G speeds, then throttled. I never exceed my limit. My 13 year old son is the only one in the family who does, because he's constantly streaming music and videos when he's away from wi-fi he could piggy back off of.

As far as spotty reception, I rarely have a problem, and I read recently that t-mobile is upgrading their coverage.

I think it's fair to say I will give up my flip phone. I understand why you didn't.

Depends where you live and where you travel, check the coverage maps. If you travel like a mofo like myself I'd suggest...

#1 Verizon
#2 AT&T

If you're in a good T-Mobile coverage zone and don't move around a lot then it can work but for traveling they are basically solid in the major cities but not so much on the in between farmland. Think by 2015 they will have built up the shit in between but as of today you'll be pissed when your in the middle of nowhere and email takes so long to download it's basically useless if you rely on always being connected to data.

I switched from AT&T to T-Mobile about six months ago. I owned my phone with AT&T but got a new iPhone 5S from T-Mobile and my bill is still $40-$60/month less now. I'm very happy I made the change.

T-Mobile is awesome I love them! My Verizon bill was 100s every single month and the amount always changed. My T-Mobile bill is the same every month and its under $100

I would never use AT&T. Everyone that has them complains about them.

I've been with Tmobile since they were VoiceStream.

In Minneapolis and the surrounding suburbs the coverage is great. If you stay on a major highway while traveling around the state, it is still good. Once you leave those highways is when you notice the difference.

Every spring I do a Steelhead fishing trip with my buddies in northing MN on Lake Superior. This is when I curse Tmobile. For the past 4 years we have stayed at the same lodge. My buddy who is on Verizon can stream netflix via 4G while I can't even make a call. Also when we are in the middle of nowhere hiking streams, he can talk to his wife and kids and again, I get no service.

That being said, trips like that don't happen often and while annoying, I can live with it. The cost of 3 lines for my family is $145 per month. We priced out a similar plan at Verizon (after a fishing trip) and it was around $230.

Yup, this is exactly my experience. I'm in the country enough that it's a fucking hassle, if their customer service & prices weren't so good I'd have been gone long ago.

Problem is, I hear complaints about all the other carriers too, so it's sort of a pick your poison scenario.

I hear Tmobile is by far the best if you travel quite a bit internationally, can anyone confirm?

You should have sold the phone on Craigslist in minutes, got another from T-Mobile for free and then had them pay the termination fee. You would have ended up with $450 in your pocket!

It's free on their end if you have the right plan (most do, you can call & check). This sounds great. HOWEVER - they don't tell you that this does not include roaming charges incurred by the international carrier whose towers/signals you're piggybacking on.

So for example T-Mobile themselves won't charge you if you're in, I dunno, Bulgaria or something, but that Bulgarian carrier will bill T-Mobile for the usage and they pass it on to you. Basically there are normally 2 charges you get hit with for international roaming, T-Mobile only takes care of one of these.

I was traveling internationally some this winter. Beforehand I spent time on the phone with TM customer service interrogating them about this - "So you're saying I won't get charged for ANYTHING when using this internationally? My bill will be the same as usual?" "OH YES, ABSOLUTELY!". I made them say this 10 different ways because I couldn't believe what a great deal that was.

Then on returning to the USA my bill was pretty huge for the reasons outlined above. They were like "Sorry we did not explain this clearly". Yet it would have been the simplest thing in the world to explain. They wound up waiving the charges which I didn't expect, but point being it's not as great as it sounds.
