Test drive results.

So, I'm on the market to find a new car, it's effin Urop so no cheap offers, gotta be an every day driver for 2-4 people.

Okay, so, I chose to test drive Mazda 3, Toyota Corolla, Ford Mondeo, Toyota Auris, Honda Civic, Mitsubishi Lancer hatchback, Nissan Quashqai.

Due to the budget limitations I had to exclude Audi A4/A6, Mazda 6, Honda Accord - sucks to be poor!!!!

So,

1. Toyota Auris - fucking too small, wife could barely fit herself behind me, so no bueno.
2. Mazda 3 - fucking love the ride, 2.0 engine, not a bullet but it fucking can ride. Short gear shift sequence, you could use 5 when you're at 80km/h - fucking loved the wheels,
it's MUCH more comfortable than it was before.
3. Ford Mondeo - Jeez, 1.6 dont go at all, 2.0 it's ok but it's a freaking boat, narrow EU streets are not made for that, but must admit it is fucking comfortable.
4. Honda Civic - plastic torpedo, feels like Lada 1980, what's the fuck? Sort of powerful but the plastic. No room for a man of my size too.
5. MitSUSHIbishi lancer hatchback - it's ok for a beginner but maaaaaaaaan, the interior
is so cheap i left the salon in no time.
6. Nissan Quashqai - well, teh 1.6 engine is ok, but new ones come with 1.2 turbo that is presumably gay, would last for a couple of years, and why the fuck would i want to pay for 18" rims when in Europe?
7. Toyota Corolla - without any doubt, that is my choice.

Listed prices of the cheapest models in Sweden:
Quashqai $26850
A4 $42500
A6 $50600
Mazda 6 $35650
Honda Accord $38200

I was looking at a A6 Quattro a year or so ago, listed at a little more than $100K with all the add-ons I wanted, but decided to keep my shitty car until Tesla Model X is available in Sweden.

Toyota Corolla $23000. Winning.

I know that, different classes of course
For some reason I assumed he was buying used vehicles. That is why I said you can get A4 for quashai price. Maybe I assumed that because:

1. He said "sucks to be poor" while in reality if you can afford NEW cars like that you are not poor, you are on the above average income level in Poland or anywhere in Eastern Europe.
2. He said he could afford Mondeo, but could not afford Mazda 6 and Accord while they are the same class vehicles. Mondeo and Mazda 6 even cost the exact same amount for base model. So it was very strange he could afford Mondeo, but not Mazda 6.

Anyway, good luck with Toyota

I don't need to disrespect you, but if those were my only choices.... Well, let's just say that none of those would do. Your list seems to be all cars only high school kids would drive.

This is not America, people do not drive trucks or huge caddilacks. All of them are family type cars. Kids drive smaller vehicles. And for example in Southern Europe some of those cars, like Mondeo, would be even bigger than average, lol.

They are cars that people in Europe drive because they have to worry about size and fuel economy.

and they're not as cheap as in the US.
Did a quick check and a new corolla is $17k there, that's €12,500. Almost twice as cheap! I knew it was a big difference but this comes as a surprise to me

If they're not all electric or at least a plug-in electric, you are buying a dirty old tech shitbox.

I'm guessing if you had to pay what they do for gas your first choice wouldn't be a 1990's pickup with a v8 or a gas guzzling jeep either.

My jeep isn't bad on gas really - it's a six banger.

Not at all. I have no idea what you make. I'm just saying that if I had only $20k to spend you still wouldn't catch me driving one of those cars. I would buy a used car before I would buy one of those.

I do own a truck too, although it's not a huge deal. It's a back up car and from time to time we use to it haul stuff. It's going to come in handy this week - I am leaving town and we have a family member staying with us so they will have a car to use.

About $8 per gallon in Sweden both for petrol and diesel.

I pay $9.99/gallon for 100 octane race fuel in my cars I drive all the time.
If you are baller enough, gas price doesn't matter either.

Yeah ok....

*if* and that is a HUGE *IF*, you have cars that run engines requiring a 100 octane, then you are going to be paying far more to replace those engines...

You would be better off adding a methanol squirter or running them on lpg (higher octane) or a combo of them.

My brother just bought a brand new Quasqai about a month ago, so far he likes it a lot. Him and his girl just had a baby so it is perfect for them. Plenty of trunk space for the babies stroller, tons of room to have both of them, the baby and maybe one set of parents to go for dinner. He said he was very surprised so far in fuel consumption, he had figured it would be bad but apparently it is pretty decent.

When my wife and I flew back to Scotland for our wedding last year, we rented two of these to drive our out of town guests about sightseeing, I didn't mind driving it and neither did my wife, we had the diesel version tho and it was a bit on the loud side.

Thanks for the feedback, I tested 2, the older 1.6L and new 1.2Turbo, interior is beyond my comments - very well done, but I'm tall, and I need to lower the seat to the lowest position to somehow put my eye line in the window.

I rented a 2013 Toyota Verso Diesel 7-Seats last time i was in France. ( Almost new, car had 900 KM+ on it)
Was happy with the car, 4 adults and one baby seat with no problem. We went cross country and back.
Lacked a bit of power but for 65+ MPG I couldn't really complain.

Decent looking car too, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UEP7XqyvoOc
