House of Reps votes to prevent DEA and feds prosecution for medical marijuana

In states that have legalized pot the feds will not intervene in medical marijuana issues.

Good to see that some Republicans are starting to actually go against big govt. like they claim they do.

Now let's see if the Dems in the Senate will follow suit

Something I've always wondered about.. What happens with drug testing now in a state like Colorado, where pot has become legal? When employers give drug tests, do they now have to ignore a positive to THC or what ever they test for or can the companies get away with not hiring due to a positive?

think about that

In my opinion, it is a total invasion of privacy to "drug test" people.

My understanding (and I'm no lawyer) is that they can still fire you or refuse to hire you based on a positive result.

Pot is legal in those states, but so are pain pills if you have prescription and in many cases they will not overlook that.

I was told it is not because the employer gives a damn what you are doing on your own time, but they don't want you high on the job.

Where my brother works if they have an accident everyone on the job site gets tested and if you piss positive for any kind of narcotics or booze you will get anywhere from a week suspension to fired depending on how bad the accident was and what level of involvement you had in it.

Alcohol is legal in all the States. But employers are not forced to hire people who show up for a job interview drunk. And employers are free to fire employees who show up to work drunk.

Same would apply to pot.

I agree with that 100%

An employee shows up inebriated in any manner they should be shitcanned.

It's the part where you take random people's blood and test it that I don't agree with.

The difference is though a drug test can show up positive for weeks after consumption with marijuana whereas alcohol will be gone within 24 hours.

And yes, in Colorado employers can fire people that test positive, although there is a case before the Colorado Supreme Court where Dish Network fired some crippled guy for medical use and his argument is that it is a right to use medical marijuana. So it may change, probably not though.

I would think it has a pretty good chance to pass. It passed the house mostly on democrat votes, only a handful of republicans voted for it so it looks like the democrats are supporting the bill.

Democrats have been the ones mostly supporting this all along. A few Republicans finally jumped on the bandwagon and suddenly it's as if they were the ones behind it all along..

I guess what ever it takes to finally pass a bill that should of been passed in the 80's...

even if it passes its just symbolic. DEA will do the same exact shit with a different title, & funded from some black budget.
