Vocal Recording Tips?

I need a new mic, and I am far from an expert in the matter. I have a cheap Blue Snowball. I need to upgrade that. I am not sure wIhether I need a dynamic or condenser style. I read about Neumann's, but they sounded pretty pricey.

I will be using it solely for audio (voice over/reading) work. I have the paid version of Wavepad and Soundbooth, though I have never taken the time to learn SB.

I also need to do a better job on managing acoustics. I have recorded in a walk in closet so that the clothing could absorb the sound. But I eventually need something better.

To add to my laundry list, I need a good pop filter.

Any suggestions appreciated.

I have a Rode NT1-A that works a treat and im about to convert a walk-in wardrobe to a soundproof booth, the booth will take up about a quarter of the room but will use the depth of the wardrobe for extra space. Also pop filters are pretty cheap but you can get the same effect from pantyhose stretched over a wire coathanger.

Thanks guys, that is awesome! I will look into those.

I have done the thing about stretching a pantyhose over an bent coat hanger and used it. It did cut down on it somewhat. I tried backing away from the mic, but then it seemed that I was picking up too much "empty" room sound, for lack of a better term.

I appreciate it!
