Man, I don't know what you be smoking lately but I'm loving me some RUSH.

I recently had my original Caress of Steel album apraised at $75. :D

I also have an original edition of their self-titled debut album "RUSH". Not sure what that's worth.

Is the value of records finally going up? I always remember seeing them dirt cheap, but admittedly all the stores that used to sell them around here have closed up. I never got into collecting them unfortunately.

The value of 'some' are going up, mostly due to more and more people actively collecting now and wanting to find the rarer albums that are still in good condition. For one thing, there never will again be anything like all those amazing album covers from 60's and 70's vinyl records. Couple that with the irreverant classic rock and the unique sound the turntable medium produces and, well, value can only go up from here.

I had a guy come over and clean me out of all my Stones albums a few years back. He paid a pretty decent buck at the time too, but now years later i'm of course wishing I had've hung on to them.

The TPB's did a special this past year and they did a shot for shot remake of the original video. I'm watching it right now...it's awesome.

Yep...the willow trees along the shore are still there.

Didn't see anyone drinkin' by the lighthouse or smokin' on the pier, though.

Lots of babes 'n bikinis, though. Lakeside Park in the summer always has some great eye candy.

I really don't get people (especially Canadians) who say they love rock but hate Rush. I mean here you have three of the most technically talented and hardworking guys on the planet, each considered among the top or AT the top in the world for their chosen instruments to the point of being virtuosos. They have an incredible body of work spanning 40+ years.

They have released 24 gold records and 14 platinum records (including 3 multi-platinum), placing them third behind The Beatles and The Rolling Stones for the most consecutive gold or platinum studio albums by a rock band.

Not everyone has to love their music but christ sakes how do you not at least acknowlege the sheer scope of the talent if not the achievement?

Rush is the thinking mans rock and therefore cuts out of most of the potential audience immediately. They have never played "dumbed down" rock just to sell records but have maintained high standards preferring quality over quantity.

Their contribution to music is clear by the longevity and body for work they have.

4- Rush holds fourth place for most consecutive gold or platinum albums
Only three bands have more consecutive platinum or gold records than Rush: The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and Aerosmith. That’s the list, and despite that amazing statistic, Rush has never been inducted — or even nominated — to be entered into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Even people who hate Rush would have to concede that they deserve such consideration due to the length of their career and their surprising sales figures.

Outta curiosity, I went through my collection the other day and counted up my varioius Rush albums/cassettes/CDs.

8 vinyl albums
4 cassettes
7 CDs
3 concert videos

And yet...I've still never seen my hometown band in concert. WTF?

I have seen RUSH several times over the years since the "Signals" tour... Never disappointed!

In my last band we did La Villa Strangiato into YYZ... ALL the musicians in the crowds LOVED it... Regular folks just wanted some "Skynyrd".....

askmen says 4th, several other sources say 3rd. Another source on wiki even says it's KISS and not Aerosmith that holds down the 3rd spot.

www.rushbeyondthelightedstage.com -
"Rush is one of rock's most influential bands, ranking third behind The Beatles and The Rolling Stones..."

Princeton University says Rush is 3rd -- https://www.princeton.edu/~achaney/t...sh_(band).html

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rush_(band)#Sales

So you really should have saved your little correction post and just done a few more searches. The few I've found saying Rush are in 4th place can't even agree on who holds the 3rd spot. And in the end does it matter? They're a massively successful entity in rock spanning over 4 decades. Whether it's Rush, Kiss or Aerosmith in third spot you can't really lose, right? They're all great in their own way.

this argument has been regurgitated for decades now.. true rock speaks to EVERYONE not just music nerds.. If technicals and skill was all that was needed to make brilliant music neither the beatles or the stones would have sold shit and steve vai and the band Yes would be the best selling bands ever... clearly that's not the case.

Rush is good, there is no argument. I'm not a big fan of it though because it often seems like its trying too hard and doesn't flow naturally as rock usually should. Their lyrics tend to be too preachy and very 'unrocknroll' like and I was never a huge fan of geddy lee's voice. A lot of jazz has the same problem. Very little is melodic and doesn't speak to the masses and sales always reflect that, but its not to say that there aren't a huge collection of talent in that genre both past and present--one trip to new orleans can prove it for you if you have any doubts.

Part of what makes Rush so good imo are the lyrics, thus the thread title. And including the release date. Very relevant still.

Like pink floyd. The Wall, for example.
