Favorite Video Editor: Sony Vegas, Adobe Premier, or Final Cut?

I have Vegas and Premier, I like Vegas better but will admit have limited experience with Premier.

Thoughts on Final Cut?

Vegas gets it done for me. I have Adobe Creative Cloud, with access to Premiere, but I didn't like it compared to cheap ass Vegas Video.

I use Sony Vegas, Handbrake and Video to Video.

They're good for my needs.

avid dv xpress was my go to.
I have played with premiere little. Vegas seems so clunky coming from Avid

Its been years since I actually edited so avid might have changed

Out of all those Premiere and Final Cut are about equal but I still like using Pinnacle for simple things. And Adobe Media Encoder.

Adobe Premiere Pro. I love the improved integration with Photoshop, Encore and other apps.

I used vegas video for years back when I used to edit. It's been a while but it was so easy I could jump right in there and edit tomorrow if I needed to. Premiere was always clunky and had a much higher learning curve I found.

I moved away from Final Cut Pro X (which I do love and still do use from time to time) to Adobe Premiere. The main reason is that I can work on pretty much any machine, Windows or OSX.

I have two clients who are on Windows and like me to work in house on occasion. This comes in handy here.

nobody uses Lightworks? I'm very happy with it for almost a year. Slightly different workflow from Vegas or Premiere, but reads my camera format and great for fast cut, color correct and exports in very high quality and quicker than Vegas.

Premiere Pro fo sho. If your a FCP guy you can change your keystrokes to match. Adobe wins. Animated titles, you better learn After Effects too. Only downside to Prem Pro is the native titling in my opinion.

The title templates and intro work is great and everyone is using them now so many more will be available for After Efx for nothing.

I'm looking over these little more and Premier seems quite a bit more complicated, which in my experience, tends to create better results once getting over the learning curve. As CF mentioned, I do like that it can be used on PC and Mac. I might put some more time into learning that as opposed to learning a one system editor like FCP. The new Vegas Suite looks very nice, but again the cross-platform issue.

Final Cut X! I was a 7 user even a year (or so) after X debuted, but since we made the change, we've never looked back.

Vegas probably is a bit easier than Premiere...but the basic concepts are the same...and very different than Windows Movie Maker. Of course, it depends on what kind of editing you need to do.

The number of online tutorials for all of the Adobe products outnumber all the others combined. If you want to learn how to do something specific, you can find a video on how to do something pretty quickly and easily.

The basic concept for all of them is the same, it's the added stuff that starts setting them apart.

I love Final Cut Pro X, it's a tool for novices and professionals. It's definitely worth it's price. I've just gotten used to using Premiere for client purposes and find myself staying in there for most work.

Adobe Premier is the standard now for editing as a media or news freelancer. Learn that.

Final Cut X is a waste of time. Users didn't like the change to X and apple has done nothing to fix issues editors need and have asked for. I like FCP but honestly it just isn't worth the time.

Sony Vegas is awesome and a personal favorite. I no longer use it but highly recommend it.

Verdict: Adobe Premier, editors (except FCPX) are all basically the same, the buttons are just in different places. Don't be scared about learning any of them.

vegas is even easier than that really.. all visual interface, works with more video types without incident. Basically like putting up your own story board with transitions. Visual channels that work the same way.

I should add, just because it's easier to learn doesn't make it any less professional. I've never found any limitations with it and I assume its only gotten better since when I used it.

I wanted to swing back with an update.

I've been using Adobe Premiere Pro now and I'm liking it much better than Sony Vegas. The workflow is very nice and the integration with the other Adobe products is really fantastic. For whatever reason, my output videos are coming out much better quality as well. This is most likely a Sony Vegas user error issue, but I'm happy nonetheless. One thing that I don't like is it appears that I cannot run multiple instances at the same time, like I can with Sony Vegas, but I will look into this more.

I will check out Final Cut Pro X as well. I am a software junkie.

You will have to install it on separate drives then you can run multiple instances. errr at least you could. It's not designed that way but it has worked for me.

Edit: They may have been different versions too. I can't remember.
