Jimmy Connors, Johnny Mac, Andre, Pete ..........

Nobody cares about tennis anymore in North America, don't even think a great American mens player would help much.

When I was a kid tennis was HUGE, Borg and McEnroe were as popular as the biggest football, baseball and basketball stars. I have worn Stan Smith sneakers forever - not sure they even make them anymore. There were public tennis courts/clubs everywhere you looked, many of them have been converted into basketball courts and other uses.

Well, if the US had anyone in the top 10 consistently, it would help. Tennis isn't as expensive as golf, but it takes serious cash to train a kid.

Not only men.. but women as well and they weren't famous for being hot like today. In fact, it was quite the opposite.
