Been there done that.
Best memories were Everquest and Ultima Online before that.

I miss the days of consequences. Where death sometimes meant a full evening of corpse runs to retrieve your gear. How much it sucked in the situation, I somehow miss it today.
Nothing really gives the same feeling anymore, being deep into a dungeon where you know one add will really challenge you or the group, and two adds will mean a wipe and the next hour fighting your way back to your corpse. Today you just pull anything that moves without much hesitation. In case the fight was a bit too difficult, oh well you are back in the game within a minute.

Then there were the camps/camping and mob stealing. While it had its downsides you often joined groups at good XP spots. I met a ton of people back then this way.
Today leveling is mostly focused on quests, which have meant that all the games I have played I have leveled on my own. Except for group quests it was hard to find other people with same quests, and being able to solo stuff made it irrelevant. Sure there is the option to join a guild but still..

Looking forward to EQ Next, and until then I use some of my spare time on Landmark.

I will never forget the day I got into a death loop in EQ with my 65 druid.

I went on a Fear raid with my guild. By this time, Fear wasn't hard to break into for a bunch of 65s but someone needed something for their epic so the whole guild turned out to support them on an epic run.

However, the day before I had been farming wyrm pelts in I think the great divide. I had bound myself in the wyrm cavern so I could easily port to the bank and back.

Needless to say, before someone could come and kill that wyrm and start rezzing all the corpses, I think I lost something like 30 levels.

That was the day the kickass pink druid who was the first to lead public raids in the planes of powers on Innoruuk and then the Nameless got her ass royally handed to her. And I still have old guild members (and a husband that was there) that won't let me forget about my stupidity.

Haha nice story

My best memories are from Everquest as well.

Can't remember the zone but once was lucky to group with some guys from Raging Fury (one of the top gulds back then). At some point the group wiped, and after several attempts to get our gear without luck we got more people to help. Was early in the morning though so not many online. Then full wipe of two groups and situation got worse with more people dying.
Long story short, people were calling friends to get out of their beds and help, and we ended up with close to full level 65 raid force in the end just to get everyones equipment back.

And so many other memorable moments
I often miss that time

Went to Everquest 2 after it's release for a period, and then played WoW for some time.
Then jumped from game to game from a long list of MMORPGs

Pirates of the Burning Sea
Age of Conan
Guild Wars 1+2
Aion
Rift
Star Wars: The Old Republic
Neverwinter
Dungeons & Dragons Online
Lineage II
Vanguard: Saga of Heroes
Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning

None of them able to catch my interest for long. Latest one was Rift I played for about 1½ year. Now it is EQ Landmark I play from time to time, and my hope is EQ Next will be one that really catch my interest and I will play for years to come.
