no, they died on the way back

but for sure Russian technology has proven to be extremely reliable over the years - on the other hand a big step forward in technology was always avoided - see Buran - and within this always lie big risks - see Space Shuttle/Virgin/SpaceX.

but this thread is not about this

Rockets do not send the people from orbit to Earth. Lander capsules and parachutes do it. Bad parachutes and bad capsules - of course, but not the rockets. Once again: USSR and Russia have launched more than half of all rockets to the space (more than all other countries together) and no one cosmonaut has died.

From practical point of view that doesn't matter that much. The end result is the same whether the rocket explodes or they drink too much vodka on the way back to base.

Do you know that even the first space rocket made by mankind (R-7/Soyuz) has a catapulted module? It was used at least once when the rocket engine has failed on the start. The module was catapulted and saved lives for two Soviet cosmonauts. You know, the US shuttle crew was doomed to burn in fire in a similar situation...

i made this thread to make a little fun and because of the "Go fuck yourself" in the initial text - not to debate the whole Russia/USA thing once again and who killed how many people how.

but thanks for starting that debate once again

Another thing that drives me nuts about metric/imperial is gas mileage. Being old school, I could always understand getting 25-35mpg. But with this whole metric thing, I'm still comparatively lost when a dealership states it as litres/100kms.

well, if you grow up with ltr/100km, mpg makes no sense at all

for me a car with 5 ltr/100 km is efficient and when it takes 13ltr/100km like my Porsche used to, it needs to go
