NBA Star Loses $110 Million US Dollars

Former NBA star Antoine Walker: Life after losing $110 million - Yahoo Finance

It's no good to say $110 Million. You have to add the words US Dollars to make it sound right. I guess this is old news but its interesting to watch how dumb a fucker can be.....

He played in Lexington, very familiar with his dumb ass.

The fortune he spent on his family and "posse" was nuts.

Worst part is not only did he go broke but how will the family members pay the taxes, upkeep, insurance, etc on houses he bought them? They can't, all lose.

On the other hand you have Kenny Walker also a University of Kentucky player and ex NBA player ... He lived down the street from my parents, wife drove a Camry, could see him mowing his own yard, buying his own groceries, living normal but without a worry in the world.

Yep, same as Houston rockets center, Hakeem Olajuwon. He has made over $100 million since he retired in real estate in the Houston area. Not all athletes are knuckleheads, but the majority sure are.

At least half of all pro athletes will be broke within 5 years of retiring from their sport. Of course many of them were people that made the league minimum and were only in the league a few years, but many of them are players that made and lost a lot of money.

It is like winning the lottery. They have no money for most of your life, then one day they have millions and they go crazy and make bad choices.

Most of the NBA players end up broke five years out of retirement.

Pippen, Iverson, Sprewell... to name a few.

Lavish lifestyle and poor financial decisions made them flat broke.

Not exactly.

There have been a few that are MUCH bigger such as Eike Batista who went down recently. He was 7th richest man in the world and went from $30 Billion to around Bankrupt. He makes that NBA guy look like Einstein:

Don't humor the sigwhores. If they had any brains they wouldn't be sigwhores in the first place, do you expect them to remember what you're teaching them?

Being a good guy doesn't mean he was good with money.

Here's an example. There was an NFL player named Rocket Ismail who made a lot of money. He had his dad act as his financial caretaker because he didn't trust strangers and didn't want to get ripped off. His dad got talked into doing a real estate deal that looked good on the outside, but once you dug into it, it was a disaster. His dad din't know what to look for and went ahead with the deal and he lost millions in it.

He's a good guy who loves his son, he just isn't good at investing money.

In Walkers case, based on the article, it sounds like he could have avoided a lot of it. He didn't show up for some court appearances and did other dumb things along the way. Still, a lot of these guys, like lottery winners, think the money will last forever and they suffer from that situation of being very good and successful at one thing so they think they can't lose at anything.

What's the rule of thumb for saving? 10% of your pay?

"Stick to your financial plan and don’t invest until you’re done with your career when you’re able to be hands-on"

You still have to stick your money somewhere at that time...

I have no sympathy for him. I'm also sick of seeing this shit re-posted all over the internet, on FB and every other social media platform, with stupid people commenting about how it's sad for him. The guy was paid $110 million in his career, a sum of money that no one should ever lose. Lets say he paid half of it in taxes, he still had $55 million in his time, and lost every damn cent because he was stupid. It's always the same with these young athletes, they buy their entourage fancy shit, they let them live their lifestyle and it ends up costing them 10x what it would be if they just took care of the important people in their lives.

I understand how hard it can be to manage money when all of a sudden you get more of it thrown at you than you could ever dream of having, that is where the athletes need to be smart and surround themselves with good people, take it slow and really think things through. No doubt his TV buddies will come to his rescue, give him a job on a decent salary, let him try to rebuild some of his life. Blows my mind that some people can be that stupid with money when they came from nothing.
