Was the YNOT messageboard the first forum on the entire Internet?

I knew of no adult or mainstream forum before I found YNOT, the only place I saw people communicating online before YNOT was Usenet newsgroups, auto mail lists (i forget the geeky name of them), IRC channels.

Does anybody know the approximate date the YNOT forum went live?

'95 or '96 and perhaps LAJ will pop in and correct me? Back when I still picked my nose from time to time and porn was a magazine I kept under my bed.

Ownership has changed there and I guess part of the deal was to have all threads before 2004 archived and sealed. One of the only boards Mr. Markham posts on because he hasn't been banned there. There's a couple gems on there but moves at about 1/50th or even 1/100th the pace of this board.

I get totally blank stares these days any time I mention Usenet newsgroups. I still remember back in the day spendin' hours each day posting to a.b.p.e.b and a few others with our content.

Ask Jay on the Ynot board and I'm sure he will chime in faster.

OP is talking about first any type of forum on the internet. You are talking about first adult industry forums. So no, neither Or highly unlikely that first forum was adult forum.

No it's not highly unlikely the first forum was an adult webmaster forum. I believe YNOT's forum started in 1996, the Internet was a vast wasteland pretty much in '96, most of what you would find on the WWW with your Netscape browser were porn sites, link lists/indexes and free pics and ugly personal homepages. Yahoo I think existed, AOL of course - but I had never seen a forum before YNOT's. My interests at the time were news/politics, sports and porn - never saw a political or sports forum as I surfed around back then.

Not claiming YNOT was the first but it is possible.

I found something:

The very first software dedicated to forum protocol was WIT, which was developed by the W3 Consortium in 1994.

So if YNOT was started in 1996 it is safe to assume that they were definitely not the first

So their web forums started in 1996, which is the same year YNOT's forum started.

I remember that time when web had nothing then just personal and pet web pages ;)
It was popular coin then to "make your own personal web page"

If not the first it was one of the first.

YNOT was already teeming with life by the time I started poking around in there. That was 97-98 as I recall. I know I found other boards back then but for the life of me no names are coming to mind. All of the more familiar ones I do know of came later.

So you genuinely thought that not only YNOT but maybe even n et p ond may be the first internet forums overall (not only among adult boards)?
If you did not think that then it was you who misread him. And if you thought so then I am surprised. I mean to think that n e t p o n d may be first internet forum ever is just strange...

Hmm.. I could of swore there was a HP Unix development support forum/board whatever around mid-90's or 97 whenever it was or could of just been a comp.sys usenet group.. I was never big on message boards. I spend 90% of my time "on line" on IRC during the 90's (local BBS's before that) and most of the early-mid 00's. Was alerted to 9-11 on IRC. Got most of my porn from other users ad hoc "file servers". Some crazy shit to be found Yeah the web was pretty basic back then.. admit it you miss it

The adult industry was duck to water in the early days of the 'Net' and offered a lot of innovations.. very first or not they were definitely up there
