Anybody used a product to transfer SD video from a camcorder or a VCR?

I'm shopping a small tool to transfer SD video from an old camcorder and a VCR. My laptop doesn't have a firewire slot and I have Windows 7.

Something like these two products:

laptops are under powered for converting video, you need to get a good desktop with like an quadcore i7 processor and at least 16 gigs of memory, then get a decent video capture card from winnov or similar

you start using those little plug in things and you will dropped frames

we have used winnov products since 1997 for doing live video and encoding video from cameras

Elgato game capture hd works fine. No dropped frames. I see guys record their classic game consoles with it all rhe time without issue. Just dont get the newer hd60, as they've stripped the composite inputs from it.

Seems excellent, but I only have a laptop at the moment.

I ordered two. Thanks for the suggestion, I didn't know these existed. I don't have high hopes in these, so I'll probably order something else, but who knows. I've had good success with similar convertors before.

I don't know if you have an HDMI port on your computer but I use my notebook computer with the Elgato Game Capture HD along with a Mini Composite AV CVBS 3RCA to HDMI Video Converter Adapter 720p 1080p Upscaler. I convert VHS videos (4:3) to 720p (16:9) and never dropped a frame. My notebook computer is an old ThinkPad T410 with a Core i5 processor and Windows 7. Works like a charm.

I haven't used either of those devices but I have used previous versions of this Pinnacle hardware and had good results.

Laptops can encode simple SD video just fine.
Any of the 2 products the OP posted will work without problems.

A laptop made today is many times more powerful that any of the 120+ encoders we used to encode 65,000 DVD's for VOD sites a few years back...
