Domainers I Need Your Help - GoFuckYourself.com

I am involved with a non profit and they have let their domain expire.

It was registered at GoDaddy and it's in redemption period.

The guy who registered the domain has since canceled all of his CC's and doesn't have the same e mail address. He also doesn't remember his password and really ins't helping us in re-registering the domain name.

I imagine someone else is going to get it before we have the ability to re-register it.

Suggestions?

it certainly doesn't help that he doesn't have the same email address anymore. if all else fails, backorder the domain at multiple places. it can't be that in demand as if it was it would of sold at godaddy auctions before it went into redemption. make sure it actually is in redemption though. often what godaddy calls 'redemption' period isn't the actual redemption but godaddy's.

There's another way.... Go to a registrar, type the domain in and keep clicking REFRESH

i'm sure you can get the domain back but its going to require some work on the part of the registrant. he'll have to call godaddy explain the situation and they will want him to fax a copy of id and possibly other things. then you'll have to pay the $80 redemption fee plus cost of renewal.

I called on his behalf. GoDaddy said everyone has a 4 digit pin code, so I've asked for that.

Who is the Registrant listed in WHOIS? If it is in the name of the organization, an officer of the organization should be able to gain control by providing GoDaddy with the necessary documentation and redemption fee (about $80). You have 30 calendar days from the Updated Date listed in WHOIS to recover the domain before it changes from redemptionPeriod to pendingDelete.

All of godaddy's expired names go to their drop auction. Why not just pick it up from auction?

if you do not manage to redeem then place a backorder in the following places in the order that I wrote:

dropcatch.com
snapnames.com
pheenix.com
namejet.com

be prepared to go to auction if it is a good name...domainers are a broke bunch you will rarely have to pay more than 200$ even in an auction unless the domain is really really good...if an outfit called hugedomains.com gets it, just wait for one year and they will drop it

I had this happen to me once when a friend/editor died of cancer in 2011. By luck I found his username to his registrar on the browser history of the editing rig he used. He also had his email address auto password saved. Having those bits of info I was able to transfer it out & keep things going. But yea.. I know the feeling. It's like someone forgetting to give you the keys to the cabin in Tahoe they let you use for the summer.
