Yes! Nasa's finally going to Europa

In my opinion, the best possible place to look for life outside of the Earth.

JPL | Missions | Europa Clipper

Thanks Obama!

Based on the history of humans on earth, we aren't really looking for life, were just looking for somebody to fight.

More like developing surveillance technologies. I don't believe for a second that anyone is actually looking for E.T.

Yes. In elementary school (Grade 1-6) I took books out from the library about Space, planets, etc and understood that E=MC2 meant you could get a shitload of energy from very little mass. I watched all the sci-fi shows and became interested in Time Travel after watching "The Day After Tomorrow" by Gerry Anderson, and a documentary about it on Nova.

I really became interested in Europa after watching 2010: Odyssey 2. Arthur C Clarke's idea to write about Europa wasn't just a guess. It had long been thought that Europa's had liquid water beneath the surface, caused by Jupiter's gravity constantly tugging and twisting it, creating friction and warming the ice. Liquid water seems vital for life to exist, and the energy from Jupiter's gravity may mean that life there may not need much sunlight to exist.

If the Clipper mission can find a spot of ice that is both thin enough and faces the sun, we might be able to land a craft on it that could drill down through the ice and launch a little robotic submarine to swim around, gather photos and samples and maybe, possibly, discover some fishy aliens.

Why should NASA go to Europa? Sure the cheese and the wine is pretty good, and we're getting a good exchange for the dollar right now, but have you experienced the smell on a airport terminal transfer bus during the summer in Europa? Don't even get me started about the lack of good Air conditioning and not enough ice in the cocktails....

I think that NASA should go to Colombia instead. Hot women.

real science nerds would never spell NASA that way.

and i'm thinking Mars is where the first alien life will be discovered. a lot of oomph moving in that direction, both the possibility of life there and the exploration to find it.

The likelihood of life on Europa is actually pretty high...Mars not so much...finding evidence that Mars had life at one time..much higher.

but when we say life on Europa or anyplace else in this solar system it isnt going to be likely thats its much more than pretty basic, still any discovery of life would be huge.

When people talk about how we have "destroyed" this planet...you give mankind WAY too much credit, In the grand scheme of things nature could wipe us out and this planet would recover in a relatively very short time.

We should be going back to the moon and then back to Mars. And I don't mean probes - I mean Astronaut boots on the moon and Mars.
