Baddog,
Two quick questions. 1. What is your stance on filling a growler to bring home from a brewery? How long will the beer stay fresh? Has the beer degraded over say 24 hours? 2. Have you had Chimmay Grand Reserve? Thoughts? |

![]() It is probably twice the size now. California has weird laws about growlers and people interpret them differently. As a result, most breweries will only fill their growlers or blanks of the same style. I think buying a growler can make perfect sense; depending on the situation and the beer. For the most part, a standard beer should be fine for up to 48 hours in an unopened growler. Once you open it, you have about 24 hours. Again, it really depends on the beer. I am drinking an American stout right now. If I had a growler of it I could probably wait 3-4 days to open it and make it last 2-3 day in the growler after opening it just because it is a stout. I would never do that with a pilsner or IPA style. As far as Chimay, I have only had two of them; the Chimay Bleue (Grande Réserve) and Chimay Spéciale Cent Cinquante. By my notes, I liked Chimay Spéciale Cent Cinquante better but Chimay Bleue was very good too. What did you think of it? Which did you have? |
