Music - new country

Not long ago our local radio station twinned its' signal and launched a new country music station. Rednecks around these parts rejoiced.

As a dyed-in-the-wool country music fan...I tuned in on day one. I'd been listening to a classic rock station outta Toronto for the past few years (Q107)....and it was great to play catch-up on some of the new country stuff on the airwaves lately.

I fell off the country wagon over the past year - I'm in the same boat with catching up with the new stuff. It's like coming home! =) I'm enjoying it. Love Dierks

I am seeing Brad Paisley in May and Taylor Swift in June - I'd really like to Luke Bryan, and Kid Rock in concert too.

Not new, but yum.

Some cool songs in the list. Do mexicans and africans listen to that as well, or it is only white boys? Just curious

That's it.

I grew up with Alabama, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band...Steve Earle.

But I got away from it for awhile. They shut down our old country station around here and the Buffalo station kinda' sucked balls. And I got somewhat disenfranchised with the new stuff coming out - sounded too formulated and commercial to my ears. Put a guitar in the hands of a pretty face and promote the crap outta their blaise mediocrity.

But some of the new stuff has a rejuved feel to it lately.

Or maybe it's just the new Infinity surround system in the car.

I'd have to care to answer that question.

Your curiosity is misplaced.

Just listen to it and enjoy.

A new system will do that to you! A new car usually does it too.

I actually LOVED the nitty gritty dirt band in my babysitting days. My cousin just invited my dad to see Ralph Stanley which I have no idea who he is, but damn my dad got excited. I really do enjoy the sound of bluegrass though.

I like the cross over country like Kid Rock and Uncle Cracker. It does feel good listening to it again.

Any sound system that drowns out a Harley next to me at the stoplights...just works.

Funny thing - I grew up spendin' a ton of bucks on after-market sound systems in my cars...and they generally sounded damn good. Installed most myself. But the factory Infinity system in my Optima blows all that stuff outta the water these days.

Go figure.

Back in the 80's there was a McDonalds in downtown Seattle that played country music so the negroes wouldn't loiter.

I don't really care for country music, but sometimes its fun tok play along to on Guitar. I will also seek out country music stations when on a long road trip. Something about the long and open road brings out the occasional yee-yaw hillbilly in me.

Country music these days is more like what "country rock" used to be in the Seventies. They all sound like The Eagles to me. LOL Which is great! At least country artists know how to SING (unlike rock singers these days) and remember what a fucking melody and HOOK are.

Plus the country chicks are HOT.

Agreed.

Back in the day the stuff from Alabama was considered by many to be country/rock - but listening to it today sounds like oldtime traditional country music compared to the 'new country' on the radio.

Steve Earle really bridged the gap between rock and country. I remember seeing him in concert during his Guitar Town tour at the Diamond Club in Toronto...it was great. They used to call him the Missing Link.

I've always had a soft spot for Robert Earl Keen and Pat Green.

I was social chair of my fraternity one semester and we had an annual country themed party called the OK Corral. I wanted to get Robert Earl because I saw him play a few times at other parties and he would have definitely been the biggest draw (ie, tons of hot pussy) but he was booked for a show in Dallas that night. His agent recommended Pat as they had similar sound, so I booked Pat. He had only playing parties for about 6 months, mainly smaller gigs, and nobody had heard of him so we didn't really know what to expect. He put on a really great show and stuck around the house drinking for a few hours after the party. Fun times.

I used to love Alabama!! I went to the Diamond Club in Toronoto years ago too, but not see Steve Earl (who is great) but to see The Jeff Healey Band. LOL Or maybe that was Rock and Roll Heaven, a different club in Toronto......

You phrased that well - I tend to agree a lot of new country lacks the soul it had a few decades ago. But there's still a few exceptions...just takes more searching to find it.

I find alot of the new (female) country breed are just screamers - trying too hard to hit long high notes (i.e. Carrie Underwood, Martina McBride)...and they lose sight of the melody, harmonics and warmth of a song. They try and make every song sound like a big epic production and just over-sing the hell outta it.

Posers and fakers - Jason Aldean comes to mind. Can't stand that guy.
