:stoned Is Jon Stewart.... um, like... going to run for president?

Is he?

https://www.google.ca/search?q=is+jo...YCw&gws_rd=ssl

Seems a lot of people think he is.

I won't go so far as to say I think he is, but I suspect he might. I can't cite any definitive clues, it's more just a vibe at this point.

Hey, if Trump can do it. :D

"The Dem side doesn't need a novelty act, they already got Hillary"

--- yes, while that's true it's also true that Stewart has a massive following and fan base, and posesses the wherewithal and ability to skewer any opponent currently in the race (on either side)He's plugged into the issues, moreso than most. Born unquestionably in the US of A. And unlike virtually all current candidates, GOP or Dem, people laugh with him rather than at him. The only ones rolling their eyes at Stewart these days are those who haven't sat across his desk and debated him.

But nah, it couldn't be, right? Totally absurd. This is just a boneheaded fantasy dreamt up by a few of the ten-million-odd viewers of The Daily Show, nothing more. It'll never happen.

Probably won't.

Except that it could.

he's a fucking comedian that has 100+ writers writing his schtick for him. just like Trump, he's got zero chance of winning because he has just a shitty resume for running the USA.

It would be amusing watching a guy that just spent a decade pounding a party nightly trying to get them to cooperate with him. Hell I would probably vote for him just to watch that. Now that's comedy.

Ronald Reagan was a B movie actor, GW Bush an alcoholic and cocaine addict that ran a baseball team - Jon Stewart seems more than qualified in that context

Absolutely 100% zero chance of that happening.

He is too well aware of how that 'process' works...

Presidents have larger writing teams than comedians... the good ones pick better writing teams than comedians.

That jokester is ultra intelligent, more in tune with politics than most politicians and is a writer and producer on The Daily Show. He managed to connect with younger audiences on the topic of politics specifically when everyone else had failed to that point.

Is your name Jon Snow?

oh i gotcha before, for you, that equates to running the USA. being a talking head on a TV comedy is good enough a resume to run the country, i gotcha. unless of course, that guy is Trump, then he's a joke candidate, i'm with ya all the way.

Yes, actually it DOES show they are smart. More than half of a politicians job is picking people to be involved in crafting their messaging. The guy who picks great people and crafts a great message IS doing the job well. The guy who doesn't is not doing his job well.

Presidents (all of them) know less than 1% of what they would need to know to operate the country. Smart ones are the ones who pick people who do know the specifics of the role they are intended to fill. You don't want a President who knows everything... you want one who picks the right people who each know the specific things they need to know about what they are asked to do.

Bush picked an idiot to run FEMA and it was tragic when Hurricane Katrina happened. He also had some terrible speech writers (that's his fault more than theirs). Bill Clinton had some excellent writers. Being able to see the difference and do the hiring is important.

Every President of the United States has served as either:

Vice President of the United States
Member of Congress (either U.S. Senator or Representative)
Governor of a state
Cabinet Secretary
General of the United States Army

i could point to BO's writing team as a counterpoint, but your argument is trying to claim that Jon Stewart is smart/worthy of being president of the USA because he makes awesome jokes isn't really something i'm up for debating.

DynaMo,

I said earlier in this thread Jon Stewart won't ever run and won't ever be elected. I also don't think he is qualified. However, choosing good writers is a crucial piece of being a good President, not something to be overlooked, and in that one respect he has proven to be exceptionally skilled.

The only celebrity I'd actually vote for is Neil deGrasse Tyson. I've met him, read his books, heard his lectures and the guy is a very level headed genius. I'd love to see him run, he has the academic pedigree and speaking ability. Also he would increase the R&D done in this country a billion times what it is now.

Pair him with a serious businesswoman from the South and he would win.
Marillyn Hewson - Forbes is a solid running mate

Sadly he is too smart to run.

Donald Trump, the man, is the biggest fucking joke. He's an egotistical, ignorant bigot and a huge embarrassment to America and even the republican party which until now I thought was impossible.

Jon Stewart, the man, is no joke. He's pretty damn smart.

Jon Stewart would not run for President because it was actually done already by his colleague Stephen Colbert ("President of North Carolina" or something like that).

Maybe, but he's still smart. I'm you've seen him beat the shit out of Pappa bear:

No writers to write for him there...

Would he make a good president? Of course not.... but he's not dumb.

If you think Jon Stewart is just some guy with a bunch of writers, then you don't know shit. He's amazing off the cuff and sharper than almost anyone. His verbal sparring with Bill O 'Reilly is similar to watching a cat play with an injured mouse before he eats it.

I never stated he's dumb. I stated I don't claim he's smart on account of telling jokes written by 100+ people writing the jokes for him. And headsup. There are plenty of smart people, he's not a unique snowflake.

And headsup #2 **********. I'm not the slightest bit embarrassed by anyone with the gumption to throw their hat in the ring. Including trump. Just like I would not be embarrassed if a cable network talking head comedian with a 100+ person writing team ran.

JS seems like a smart ass. It's easy to Monday morning qb and throw barbs at people actually making decisions. This guy has been on the wrong side of issues alot but no one remembers his position because he is an insignificant entertainer. At least Reagan and Schwarzenegger were likable in their Hollywood life. Stewart show is like fingernails scraping a chalkboard.

look, you can make enemies or friends. i wrongly assumed you don't want to make enemies with me, but hey, in spite of my often times being nice to you, trying to be respectful while posting my views, you always act the dick. so i stand corrected.

you have another enemy, congrats. so, yes, i'll be letting you know how much of a fuckwad you are on a routine basis.

i can understand that. I live in America. I was raised with the idea that the aspiring to become President of the USA is a good thing and the loftiest of goals. While i would never vote for Trump, i'm not going to ridicule him for running either. just like i don't ridicule any of the other candidates, i'm open to listening to their agendas and making a decision on each and every one.

there's nothing embarrassing about any of that.

Difference here being this is the first one where prior to it he is quitting the Daily Show.

Those saying he won't run are probably right, but it's just all very... timely.

So, in summation...

He's just a comedian
I would hazard a guess that that will be the battle cry of both the GOP and the Hillary camp should he run, which he won't.

In other words he would be the most underestimated candidate in, well, history.

Stewart show is like fingernails scraping a chalkboard.
You mean unlike Rush Limbaugh, Bill O'Reilly, Ann Colter, Tucker Carlson, Glenn Beck, and co., etc, all of whom are comedians, they just don't know it.

Dennis Miller. Oh wait, he IS a comedian.

Of course none of them are running for pres. (some might breath a sigh of relief), but then again neither is Jon Stewart.

Yet. :D

There are what, 17 Republican candidates in the race so far? 17?? Or is it 18? I lost count a while back. Nearly all of whom are forgettable and in fact will be forgotten about a minute after the primaries if not sooner. The best of them thus far is who, Bush and Trump. Seriously, I'd love to see a really great, a really strong, uber smart, personable conservative candidate get in the game. One who leaves no doubt that he (or she) is a serious contender for the title of the world. But so far that's just not the case, at least not so far, as much as some would like to believe otherwise.

Until that happens everyone on the planet who cares even slightly about US politics is going to see a Dem president term after term.

And yes, I'm a fucking Canadian. Get over it.
