Athletics roiled by mass doping allegations after blood test leak | Reuters

Not really a surprise but the IAAF covering up how widespread it is is.

"Endurance runners suspected of doping have been winning a third of Olympic and world championship medals, two news organisations said on Sunday, after a leak of thousands of blood test results from 2001-2012 threw global athletics into chaos.

Britain's Sunday Times newspaper and Germany's ARD/WDR broadcaster said they had obtained the secret data from the vaults of the global athletics governing body, the IAAF, supplied by a whistleblower disgusted by the extent of doping."

"Such athletes accounted for 146 medals at top events, including 55 golds, the Sunday Times said. Russia accounted for by far the most, with 415 abnormal tests, followed distantly by Ukraine, Morocco, Spain, Kenya, Turkey and others.

"A remarkable 80 percent of Russia's medal winners had recorded suspicious scores at some point in their careers," the Sunday Times said."

Well elite athletes who compete for their countries in big events like the Olympics and world championships are regularly randomly tested - and the IAAF had the results of those tests that confirmed how many were doping and buried the test results.

I just assume that every medal winner is on something they're not supposed to be and that's not fair. It's also extremely unfair for the athletes who are clean, at that level of sport any edge can be the difference between being a medalist or an also ran.

Well, that's the thing. No one is clean. Only difference is who has better doctors to dope them up on something that is not tested, or time it perfectly to have levels below test range. There's not 1 athlete thats not doped in athletics (that makes some relevant results). This is known for years. You simply pay for doctors that know what is being tested at what levels and pay them to dose you up correctly or on new meds that are not tested.

i saw the german documentary this weekend, it's devastating

like kenyian runners that admitted that they have never been blood tested in their home country in the last 10 years, russian doping officials that announce the tests to the athletes long enough before the actual test so the drugs can be flushed out and so on

An anto dpoing expert said that there is almost no way to catch people now. They can take it when they go to bed, and they are clean by morning. The amount of testing that is needed on a constant basis is crazy so everyone just pretends now.

Yep, because there isn't a long list of athletes who were banned for doping / cheating. China swim team, lance, baseball bloke and and and.

Performance enhancing drugs do just that, if they didn't, there would be no testing.

Theres many types of dope in sports not just anabolic steroids for bodybuilding.
