Who here plays board games?
It seems like most if not all the back end "computer admin/support" people we have are MMO gamers. What surprised me is that a couple of our team members who are in their mid 40's and 50's take it to the next level. They are also into board games.
Completely surprised by it, as I sincerely thought they are pretty much the exception to what society expects people to do as a hobby at their age. That perception of mine changed when I attended ComicCon in San Diego last month. I was shocked by the incredible diversity of people when entering the board game rooms set up in one of the adjacent hotels. Board gamers came in all ages, sexes, colors and sizes. Amongst the GFY members, friends and family, do you play board games? If yes what games do you prefer playing? Is this something you are doing at home among friends and family, or do you find local spots where other board gamers meet up occasionally?

Settlers of Catan Carcassonne The Bucket King Goa |

We play board games, card games, hell we even play MMOs, RPGs, and console games like wii and xbox as a family. The board games include Monopoly, Life, Tri-ominos, and with the adults we play games like "cards against humanity." Oh and one of the older ones is always buying some sort of fantasy game here or there that involves pegs, bushels of wheat, and different kinds of commerce to build cities and other strange games.
oh and someone said mobile games, we even play mobile games against each other when we're busy. star trek and similar bridge games from the command line. i have no idea what those are called. It's all a part of having fun together. I work 60+ hours per week. I've got to have a break some time and be with the family. Total nerds. |

I was on vacation with the in-laws last week, and they wanted to play Scrabble every fucking night. All I could think was how it was like Words with Friends, except boring.
